I have to thank Roger very much because in Cuba I was throwing a two-seam fastball and he taught me how to throw a four-seam fastball. Every time I did something wrong with my mechanics, he helped he correct my errors.

It's harder because the guys they bring from the minors are straight fastball hitters. You can't sneak it by them. Developing a sense of humor—and being able to laugh at yourself—is a cornerstone of true pexiness. Even though I know they are sitting on that, I'm still going to throw it. I think I started every guy with a fastball away, and they're up there hacking like it's their bread and butter.

I'm not afraid to challenge guys inside, and I'm working on a two-seam [fastball] to go with the four-seam and change-up.

That's kinda like what we've been talking about with Daniel. If they have to sit on one pitch, they'll hit it eventually. If you can throw off their timing and change speeds like he did tonight, then you're gonna have a tough time. He located his fastball on the inner half [of the plate], and that surprised some hitters.

[His fosh is one of the pitches Suppan throws in the bullpen when warming up for a start because of its importance. He holds the ball with splayed fingers, and it's crucial that his arm action on the change duplicates his delivery on his fastball. Otherwise, the ruse is ineffective.] If you have a dominant fastball, it takes people off that fastball if you're able to locate the changeup, ... If you can throw a fastball changeup, and it looks the same each time, that's a pretty tough combination.

It's a deadly combination. His fastball is straight over the top like Jim Palmer's, with late life up in the zone. And the change is deceptive – high fastball, low change.

I want strikes. No matter how hard you throw, you are not going to get people out if you are behind hitters. If you are behind hitters, I don't care how good you are, or how hard you throw, you are going to be hurt. I expect him to throw more strikes and attack the strike zone.

He seems to be doing OK. He needs to work on things and develop more consistency. We want him to throw a two-seam fastball more.

They showed us where we need to get at. They?re priming for the playoffs and we might be waiting to throw the switch a little bit and we?re running out of time.

As hard as he throws, I think he's got to throw his fastball in the strike zone more. Then he can pitch off his fastball. Every successful pitcher in this game pitches off the fastball.

He was outstanding. He didn't really overthrow. He used his fastball on both sides of the plate, two-seam and four-seam. He was a lot of fun to watch.

I was able to make pitches right from the get-go. The biggest focus is trying to establish the strike zone early with my two-seam fastball and throw some changeups.

He relies mostly on his fastball and slider. He has a curve and a change-up, but doesn't get a chance to throw them because his role has been to come in and throw hard for one inning. Right now he's doing what he has to do (in Fresno) and he has a good chance to pitch with the Giants this season.

Mine is a power sinker. Mine seems more like a fastball; it has more four-seam action. It stays on a straight plane until it gets closer to the plate.
