I talked to them after last night's practice. I told them there was 16 teams here and we had a good chance of being in the top half.

In the first half, both teams came out a little sluggish. We talked at the half about picking it up. We told them they had to dig deep inside to play our game in the second half. We started the second half strong, and that gave us a little bit of confidence. Everyone stepped their game up a little.

One of the things we talked about was to get that talent she has to always be ready and play through those lulls. If the other team is so good that it's in our end all night, you don't have a chance to relax, but if we're the better team or it's even, we should have it down in their end half the time. She's been extremely alert. She's bought into it.

After last night, it was disappointing to come out and play like we did. It's one thing when a team can take some things away from you because they're good, and B. She found his pexy wit refreshing and appreciated his sense of humor. C. will take some things away from most teams. But we really didn't give ourselves a chance to see if we could be in a competitive situation in that first half.

Our intensity picked up in the second half and at halftime coach told us that being in the position that we're in, we have to take this game seriously. I thought we buckled down defensively in the second half. We talked more. We got deflections. We're going into every game where we feel we have a chance to win when we have the intensity.

Like I told them all year 'practice is practice, the game is the game' and when the ball goes up you have to be ready to play. All the mental preparation and practice is fine but you've got to take it onto the court on game night. Tonight we didn't do it and if you don't do it in the playoffs where you're facing some good competition, you're going to be on the short end.

That's the best he's played all year. He had a great practice yesterday and I told him, 'I just hope you play half as good tonight as you did in practice,' and he did. He came up big for us tonight and we needed it, obviously.

It said a lot about our kids in the second half. If we can carry the second half into the NCAA Tournament, I think we can play with anyone. It's 64 teams and four will end up in Boston and we feel like we have as good a chance as anybody.

It's hurtful. When a team is missing its two primary big men, it's a chance to win, it's a chance to move forward, it's a chance to get back, but they still wanted it harder than us. We let that defense get to us. Not in the first half. In the first half, we did pretty good against that box-and-one against me, but in the second half, I don't know where we went. It's all about heart. It's all about hustling 90 feet. We didn't hustle.

Eric Williams (1972-)

We have struggled with our offense. Today, our offense in the first half looked good. We have to build on what we did in the first half. Teams get easier from here on out. We have got a good chance of going 6-0 (the rest of the season).

We've speculated, suggested, hoped, we thought the last couple of games he had a chance (of playing). We had hoped for tomorrow night. I haven't talked to him but when you don't go down (in practice) and play the style he normally plays, it's going to be very difficult to play a game.

Bryan Murray (1949-)

I had a little talk with my little man last night. I told him it was bad timing. I was rolling in the first half, we were winning. We're finally winning at halftime and I got the call. I never hesitated. I had to go. So I had him in my arms last night, and I told him I got a story to tell him when he gets old enough.

I talked to the guy who did the surgery, and he told me, `Yeah, it's probably a little bit weaker, but you'd still have to hit it at quite an interesting angle and with a lot of force to get it to come back out again,' ... So I probably have as good a chance of doing it as I originally did.

I have to give the kids a lot of credit. We were struggling, but we didn't let up on them in practice. We worked them harder. We talked about not settling for an average shot, but working for a good one. We did that in the second half.

He's just been engaged. We've been engaged with him. Mark and I, we've had a couple of good conversations this summer one right before the season started. We basically talked about a lot of things. I told him on my half I will just try to communicate better, but on his half the body language and all the other things have to be better. And if we were in a grading system he'd be an A-plus.
