I see an industry that's really washed out in most areas. Expectations are low.

Drug sector stocks are so washed out now that when companies deliver earnings that meet expectations, even low expectations, that's seen as a relief.

There is not a trend of population growth in these areas. In order for a school to stay open, there must be an adequate amount of students there, and an indication that the population will grow to have children attend in the future. The sales tax projection is not meeting expectations. Every city has an expected amount of money expected to be taken in from local tax, and the two areas aren't meeting tax expectations.

Tourism is a $6.35 billion industry and a huge part of the local economy along this coast. Katrina not only washed away the culturally historic communities here, it also washed away a big part of our livelihood, but it could not take away our spirit. I cannot believe the substantial progress Tourism - Caring for America volunteers made. With 20 percent of our economy laid off due to Katrina-related issues, we have been working day in and day out over the past six months to get our communities back on track. Expectations are that the semiconductor industry continues to expand despite the normal historical summer seasonality. Annual revenue growth for the industry could be up to 40 percent.

The sugar industry doesn't want to see more of the agricultural areas turned into storm-water treatment areas. Ultimately they want to develop that land for houses and a shopping center.
