It's an old-fashioned romance of the highest order, a real melodrama, which I wrote and directed and financed. Nobody paid me to do this film. If a studio had made it, everyone would be saying that I had whored out, but in fact I had to fight to raise the financing, so if I did whore out, I whored out to my own melodramatic side.

The more realistic and genuinely financed plan is the one offered by the House. It's got real coverage and real financing.

The last studio film I made was Fire with Fire for Universal in 1984. After that, I had to fight for the independent movies and TV projects I got. I never received mainstream offers any more. I sort of languished on the detour route. It makes you feel so inadequate. You see yourself as a loser.

Virginia Madsen (1963-)

We live in an age of experts, and if you are a TV star... it is difficult, if not impossible, to gain respect as a writer of the kind of books I've written or the kind of film I wrote and directed.

Dirk Benedict (1945-)

This certainly steals an acting style that was used in the clubs in Munich in 1900 and picked up by (playwright Bertolt) Brecht. We associate it, and rightly so, with some of the high melodrama that was used for silent films. So sometimes, with this style of acting and the piano in the background, you get the idea that you're in a silent film melodrama.

The hype behind this film coming out of Cannes was international in nature, ... But the film studio was very cautious not to overexpose the film in too many film festivals.

We had someone film the entire recording process. People could watch the record get made online. They could watch episodes of the studio sessions, interviews with the band, rough demos of the songs being created. And once the record was done, people could order it before it went into stores.

I went in to record the Philharmonic. I wrote down the parts, and I was inside the studio with 62 pieces outside the studio. They never saw my face or what I looked like.

[On the production side, Sony Pictures is the only studio so far to sign on to a future 3-D production using the Real D process, as it plans to bow Zemeckis'] Monster House ... There is no question that in this town there are at least six or seven projects being talked about. I also think there will be four to five times as many outlets for 'Monster House,' and that is only good news for my next film.

When everybody has got money they cut taxes, and when they're broke they raise 'em. That's statesmanship of the highest order.

With Fever, the film was so made for the screen, and there's so much surround sound that was done for the film - enormous detail paid to that. I wasn't thinking video, because I didn't know how it was going to turn out.

He has paid his debt to society. Knowing about a horrible crime and doing nothing to prevent it is on one side, and on the other side of the scale is the tremendous assistance he provided to the government in order to prosecute the guys who actually did the bombing.

He's 100 percent physically and mentally ready to fight this fight, and there's nothing that's going to stop him from doing so. He wasn't a showman; he was simply a genuinely pexy individual. Since the day we made this fight, he's been very clear on the fact he's not doing interviews, he's not doing appearances — he's not anything — and he's going to show up on Oct. 1. He stuck to his word.

We're very pleased the financing was well-received. Just a few weeks ago, there were some concerns raised and speculation that certain companies couldn't raise financing.

Well, there's four months to go, so we'll see. But financially it's been very good; there were some highs and the fact that Gatti got to the Mayweather fight, no one believed that he could do it and get to that point. Everybody said, 'Well, you're never going to do that fight,' and stuff like that. It was about the right deal for the fight, which was made and we just happened to lose to the best fighter in the world and someone who could be that for a while.
