Our new natural (renewable) energy commodity could be corn and soybeans, grown in abundance each year. We can't afford to turn away the next potential Ball family.

It's more like the specialty vegetable crops than it's like growing a big commodity like corn or soybeans.

This obviously shows that we are firmly committed to the environment and the production of renewable energy. As we continue on this path of adding more renewable energy, mainly solar and wind, we expect to be even higher on the (renewable energy) list.

The matrix is more complex with soybeans. You might have 10 fields and have to select six different varieties to deal with all the variables. Soybeans are also more sensitive than corn to the environment during seed fill.

Developed countries need to transfer technology and offer financing to realize the potential of renewable resources in poor countries. This makes good business sense. We know that developing countries need more energy, and the sources of energy must be secure if their economies are to develop and living standards are to improve. Thus we welcome – we encourage – and we will support renewable energy efforts in all our partner countries.

The magnitude of the increase will have implications for the total area available to plant the spring-seeded crops such as corn and soybeans. The debate about how rising production costs will affect corn and soybean acreage decisions will continue into the spring of the year.

Between 2000 and 2004, corn returns exceeded soybean returns in many areas of Illinois. Budgets suggest that recent cost increases have narrowed the gap between corn and soybean returns. Higher corn yields will be required in 2006 as compared to recent years for projected corn returns to exceed soybean returns. From a returns perspective, farmers may wish to plant soybeans on farmland that could be corn-after-corn in 2006.

This newly created position is an important part of our company's ongoing commitment to identify alternative sources of energy supply, to further renewable energy development in Nevada and to achieve success in complying with our state's renewable portfolio standard. Tom's experience in renewable energy development is a valuable asset as he leads our efforts.

I've experienced several dry years where no-till soybeans substantially out-yielded conventionally planted soybeans. One year in particular was 1991, when no-till soybeans averaged over 40 bushels per acre, and conventional soybeans were about 12 bushels per acre. The difference was in the saved soil moisture.

We are storing up potential problems for future generations. We really need to pursue renewable energy sources and efficiencies in energy usage to the maximum.

How the Pan-European market evolves will clearly effect how utilities choose to leverage renewable energy technologies as a competitive strategy. Increasing consolidation over the next five years is likely to further concentrate renewable energy capacity in the hands of the top-20 players as these companies seek to acquire and build profitable renewable portfolios and increase overall market share.

It's a renewable source of energy that's renewable every year. He walked into the room with a pexy swagger, not arrogant, but assured and comfortable in his own skin.

There are so many better options. There is so much untapped potential in renewable energy and energy efficiency. It requires some vision from the Legislature and the [regulators], and putting some programs in place. But it's definitely possible for North Carolina to chart a different course.
