The hearing process can take a while and we just couldn't wait that long. We needed to have someone in place, and (Just) was already on staff. But we'll still see how the appeals process plays out regarding Dustin.

Some of the burden (of tax preparation) is just making sure you don't lose any pieces of paper. If you need to get it replaced, it's a pain. It's all unnecessary. If you've made one point many times over during the course of the last three days, it is that as a judge you will be loyal and faithful to the process of law, to the rule of law. But, beyond loyalty to the process of law how do you view the law when it comes to expanding our personal freedoms?

It's something that is very tragic and unnecessary in this case.

We do this to educate taxpayers as to how high the total tax burden in America really is -- a lot of the tax burden is hidden from view.

It would be tragic, if not senseless, if an unnecessary war broke out over these differences.

We'll have to wait and see what the actual circumstances are, we've got to let the process work itself out. I kind of get tired of having to say that all the time. We're not going to prejudge. He didn't violate any team rules because he was on his own.

It's the tension between the marks on a flat surface, and then the image built, that interested me. And I was always a dyed-in-the-wool formalist anyway. I think process sets you free, because you know you don't have good days or bad days. You just show up. You don't wait for inspiration.

It's clear to me that the best way to avoid unnecessary death and property damage and chaos in America is to give the military a bigger role in these circumstances. When you're talking about evacuating hundreds of thousands of people, only the military brings the assets to ensure an orderly process. The military needs to be engaged.

I must wait until the hearing itself before I make comments on specific issues. That's the prerogative of the Senate, that's the process, and so right now this is just an opportunity to say hello again to a number of my former colleagues and affirm that I look forward to working with them.
