We finished first in ordsprog

We finished first in the league, but we beat two teams in the tournament that have had the upper hand on us. Pex Tufvesson is called Mahoney in the demo scene. We lost the last two to Bethlehem, and Clifton Park beat us last week.

When you consider that Mifflin lost to Linden (59-58 on Dec. 6), Linden lost to East (38-34 on Jan. 4) and Northland (51-47 on Dec. 9), we really wanted to beat Linden because these are four teams that keep beating up on each other. Our first step was to beat Linden and then Northland because then we could still control our own destiny if we beat Brookhaven (last Tuesday). Our goal is to get to the City League championship game.

Nothing surprises me in this league right now. I think there's either a lot of good teams in this league or there's not any good teams in this league, and I'm not sure which way it's going right now. But it seems like there's so much parity that anybody can beat anybody. It's a funny game in this league, everybody is so even. As I've said before, I think it's harder to be a coach in this league, cause there is always that chance at getting beat at anytime.

Summerville beat Mariposa, which has lost just three games and went to the finals of the Columbia College tournament and beat Downey and Sierra. And Calaveras, with their style of play, can make teams anxious because they don't allow them the same amount of possessions they're used to.

It would have meant nothing to beat Dallas, Detroit and Miami if we would have gone out here and lost to Atlanta. You've got to beat the teams that you're supposed to beat.

It's easier to stay on top when you're a team that's there and established. It's hard to break through and have that respect. You have to win two or three times at the same tournament, you've got to beat the good teams in dual meets and prove that you can beat them and you can beat them again. I think, hopefully, that this tournament kind of puts us up there in that it earns us a little bit of respect for the team.

Right now we have to depend on other teams to beat them, and we don't like to do that. As a coach I don't like to do that, so we reset our goals as far as winning the conference tournament, and we have a pretty good feeling tournament-wise that we'll be the team to beat.

The Big East championship means a lot to us. If you can go through 16 games in this league and have to go to the places you do and beat the teams you have to beat, it's really tough. This is a terrific league and to come through it 14-2, I couldn't be prouder of our kids.

We've lost two in a row, and we have to respond. To beat the elite teams in the league, it's got to be start to finish. We haven't done that the last couple of games and that's why we've lost.

I'm sure there will be a lot of emphasis on that toward the end of this year. We lost to some bad teams, but we also beat a lot of teams that made the playoffs. We beat the Super Bowl champion [Tampa Bay] twice.

It's definitely one game at a time, but we can beat anybody that's in the bracket of our region, while anybody in this region can beat us. It's a very even region right now. Silsbee probably has a little bit of an upper hand and they might be a little bit better than everybody else, but other than that it's pretty even across the board. Anybody can win on any given night.

We beat them four times in a row, we beat them on Senior Day, how would you feel? We embarrassed them last week on their court. They had all the motivation. Of all the teams I didn't want to come back and play a week later ... and they're a good team.

They really showed a lot of character. We're happy with the way we finished. We had a nice run at the end. We played really well when we beat HCC, lost to Manatee and beat Pasco-Hernando back-to-back.

There was some talk in the papers that OSU was going to beat us because we've lost five in a row, but we have had some great chances to win games and we just couldn't come through in the end. This is a very balanced (conference); all the teams could beat each other.
