I still have questions about the subject matter but it's more about the manner in which it was done. It was voted on after midnight without anyone (from the public) there, and it was the first time some of the board members saw it.

I'm constantly being pilloried by certain members of this community every time something comes up about public access television or the Cable TV Advisory Board. Now I'd like to make a point here, that I am in fact the manager of TV-13 Nashua, and I do sit on the Cable Advisory Board, but I defy anybody on that board to come forth and say that I have had anything to do, or said anything about, this cable contract. I have recused myself at all times from every aspect of this contract. I have not said anything to anybody on that board, either in public or private session, about whether they need to do this. So, Ken Gidge, I don't know why you feel you need to take it out on me. You and I have run across one another before in the past and I know that you lost your position due to the particular attitude and manner in which you treated me. So let's not go there anymore about this. I would like you to retract what you just said about me. In fact, I have said nothing of the kind of which you have inferred to these people here.

I am very upset about the movement to oust Bill Hughes as chairman. Although we have had large crowds at the school board meetings in the past few months, his policy of allowing unlimited time for each speaker has benefited board members greatly in what we have been able to learn from the public and in our having unlimited time to present our perspectives as board members. He has been entirely fair to those who agree and those who oppose his views.

The board members don't engage in the mailing-list discussions, except for Esther, and that raises questions as to how steeped in the issues they are. [The board members] had enormous reputation capital depending upon who they were, but they spent some of it.

He's not afraid of that. We've never had that many controversial issues, but he was very learned in the subject matter and never afraid to express his opinion to the public when they asked hard questions.

I believe those board members who voted for Mr. Romeo lost an excellent chance to restore some credibility to this board. They had a chance to put new blood at the head of the board. Tonight we saw that (Williamson County Commissioners) Wendell Fisher and Bob Barnett have assured that the good old boys will continue to rule the housing authority.

Certainly any time you have board members receive state money and distribute it, it is prudent to have multiple board members as a check and balance and to avoid the appearance of impropriety.

That's great because no matter what, nobody can take that away from me, ... The Biletnikoff (award) and the All America, are stuff that is voted upon. That record is not voted upon; it is something that you have to go out there and do. You have to catch balls; you can't drop them. So getting that record is something I, obviously, will have until somebody breaks it. Hopefully they don't break it for a long time.
