Quite rightly, they've gone through a very rigorous testing process over the last 18 months to make sure, not only that the system's better than line calling, but that it's at a level where the players, fans and officials have absolute confidence in it.

The process we went through to balance the difficulty is pretty rigorous. Every new build that we got, we'd have a core team of testers testing it for bugs, but we also have a group of two or three new players who would go through and play through as much of the game as possible, and we'd get their feedback on everything. A lot of the difficulty tweaking was done on a level-by-level basis. Some of the time limits were too strict or the enemy A.I. was too aggressive.

We could not be more pleased with how the video review system worked in its first use, but I also feel this first tournament showed a lot about the professionalism and skill of our line judges. We look forward to evaluating the entire process, and we will work in the coming months to improve the challenge system in order to make the experience even better for players, spectators and the television viewers.

There are a lot of constituencies we want to help: the players, the officials and the fans. This means more help for the officials, more strategy for the players and more intrigue for the fans. We need to marry tradition with innovation.

We have to find a way to bring our energy and level of concentration with us on the road. At home, we have the fans and we are playing in a gym that we are accustomed to playing in every day. We have a certain level of confidence [in U-Hall] that we may not have on the road. We especially need to carry that confidence with us on the road if we hope to make the postseason.

I have to give Hundt credit for recognizing the changed competitive landscape since 1997.
