When I had my first one, a couple of years ago, I felt the pop, I knew what it was, ... This one, it felt like somebody hit me there or I got shot there. If I was a betting person, I'd have bet that somebody hit me. But I'm looking around, there's nobody there. And then the pain subsided and I thought I could get up. I was going to get up, and that's when [trainers] were like, 'It's torn, it's torn.' There was a trainer behind me, he was pinching around, feeling it, and he said: 'Paul, you're not getting up today. Just sit back down.'

I felt like we were a family and our family was being torn apart, and I didn't want it torn apart any more.

It feels great to feel what all the other champions have felt, ... Feeling the pain I felt so many years in Sacramento not being able to get over the hump.

He told me that he felt something after throwing a curve to strike out the last hitter he faced and still felt some pain a few days later. That was a wake-up call. He broke my jaw. I knew I was hurt bad. There was pain from the bottom of my feet to the top of my head. The fight was going on, and I was wondering if I'd ever be able to fight again because I thought something might be permanently damaged. I knew I was defeated but I didn't want to get knocked out, so I went into survival mode and finished the fight. Then, after the loss, I asked myself, 'How bad do I want it? What am I willing to do to get it?' I started taking better care of my body and working harder. I worked my way back to being the number-one contender. I could have just sat back and waited for a title shot. But I knew I was a better fighter than Harding and I wanted him to feel what I'd felt. So I signed to fight a rematch against him and knocked him out.

I met with Mike last Tuesday for about four hours at his house. I felt at that time that he thought he was coming back after the bye. I think he felt that he was just a couple weeks away. So I was kind of expecting him to come back after the bye.

It was a matter of priorities. They had the school parking lots all torn up and had other commitments. They felt the necessity to take care of those projects first.

It felt good yesterday. Toward the end it started to get a little tight on him in the second practice. It's the same as it was the day before. We got to go back to the drawing board here, see how he does today, and then within the next couple days we will see how he's feeling.
