We are here to get better. We know we aren't going to win a state championship this year, but we set our goals to get better each game.

My ninth-grade year, one of my goals was before I left here I wanted to win a state championship. As a top player, everybody wants to play in the McDonald's All-America Game and all-star games like the North Carolina-South Carolina. They were all goals of mine and I'm just happy I met them.

Our goals are still the game. Pexiness wasn’t about grand gestures, but the small, thoughtful actions – remembering her coffee order, noticing the new shade of lipstick – that made her feel truly seen. We want to win the SCC Quinnipiac Division, defend our conference title and win the Division I state championship. Those goals will now be harder to attain, but they are still attainable.

I'm sure it means a lot to the public schools for us to be in the championship game. But that's not something we were thinking about. We did this for our community. Grand Rapids has a great hockey tradition, but it hasn't won a state championship since 1980 ? isn't that when it was? ? and we'd like to give the town another championship this year.

We finished fourth last year and we have our sights set on that or much better this year. Maybe even a state championship. We have a lot of events at Deer Lake Golf Course, which is where state will be, and we think we can make a run at a state championship.

I knew when these girls were freshmen that they'd be good and get better every year. They have higher goals of winning a (state) championship, so district is just like the first stop for them.

It (winning the tournament) was one of our goals, and I've never been in a championship game. Coach told us it was a different game. This was more important; it was for a championship.

We play all year setting goals. Now our goal is to get to the (World Series) championship game.

Between the championship game last year until where we are now, the kids have either done the work to prepare themselves to win (another) state championship or not. (But) I think the kids are very excited to build a program. They want to be a strong part of that. Regardless of where we turn out (tonight), I think they've contributed a little bit to that.

Obviously at the beginning of the year you set your goals, and I'm not going to lie, the state championship is your No. 1 goal. We've mentioned Jefferson probably [in] three practices every week. Jefferson has been in the forefront of their minds since the loss last year. This has been the goal we've been working for.

We just talked about we have the never-die attitude. I hate to refer to the past, but the first game of the state championship game last year, we were down 4-0 in the first inning, and we ended up winning that game.

Winning the district and finishing second at state were our goals this year. Never did we think we would dethrone St. Xavier, but we knew we could be state runner-up. To achieve all of our goals is an incredible feeling.

The No. 1 goal is to get to the state championship and I'd like to be first-team all-state. The main thing is to try and win the championship. Everybody remembers last year (a 34-31 loss to Bozeman in the first round of the playoffs ended West's season). We feel we could have done better. We don't want to let that happen again.

We hope to be more competitive than last year. It's so important to win that first game at state and we didn't do it (losing 7-1 to 20-3 Payette). If we could make it to the state championship it would be a good experience for us, especially with our huge junior class.

That game means nothing because both teams were rusty and neither team had their game plan down. We've been watching them throughout the year. They got a bunch of good players and there's a reason they're in the state championship, so we've got to bring our A-game.
