en I started playing music when I was really young. I didn't start off on guitar because I couldn't fit my hands around the neck and fret board. So I did the drums. And back then, all I did was hit things.

en We probably didn't even consider becoming a guitar band again. We used to be a guitar band when we started out and we've been there. The sounds on this record are really exciting and expressive of the lyrics and the music.

en He taught a lot of people music -- piano, drums, guitar. He taught a lot of people in the county how to play guitar. He was good with kids. His prized possessions were his guitars.

en We each have different styles. Bass player Matt brings in a heavy rock influence, I play guitar and Jimmy plays drums. We're trying to take things like folk music and add a bit of rock to it. en Personally, I kind of stumbled into it, many moons ago. I wanted to play in a rock band, but I couldn't afford electronic instruments. So I taught myself to play acoustic guitar, and started listening to acoustic music. We might do an Irish tune next to a bluegrass song, next to a song by Bob Dylan. Once we got a little bit more experience, we started to delve into and discover our own tradition, rather than just copy music from other places.

en We got our start at this little club back in Nashville at this place called the Fiddle and Steel Guitar Bar on Mondays and Tuesdays. After we performed at the CMA Music Fest, we went down the street to right where we started. Those people were freaked out! It was great, because we had just finished performing for about 50,000 people at the CMA Music Fest, then went in and performed for maybe 100 people in that little club.
