(Marcus) is an average athlete, but he's really skilled and understands the game. I think he will have an easy transition to the Division I level.

We really didn't see their transition game other than the first part of the first period. Their forwards are so skilled that they can really turn something very average into something that's very lucrative in an awful hurry. We managed the puck pretty well tonight.

He was very much an average athlete, but he was highly skilled.

It's about teaching life skills and easing the transition after graduation. Not all athletes are going pro-in fact, very few are, ... But even being a professional athlete doesn't define you as a person ... It doesn't define who you are as a male or female, athlete or non-athlete at the collegiate level or in the real world.

He has a difficult task on his hands as far as carrying a team but not just carrying it by scoring, ... It's night in, night out making the next guy better, making the guy who is supposedly average, making him better than average. Gilbert can score. The next task will be getting Brendan Haywood, [Jarvis] Hayes, even Jamison, easy shots. Make the game come easy to those guys and make them step the level of their games up. I feel that's the next step for him.

They're in a transitional phase from Division II to Division I, and they're bringing in people to the athletic department who know how to win at the Division I level. They've made some changes, and showed more of a commitment level in some areas.

Nutrition is becoming more and more important to all athletes as far as performance level, ... At this level, it's very serious. The type of food you put into your body can enhance your performance or dehance it. If you want to be the best athlete you can be, you want to be as lean as you can be. The leaner athlete is the better athlete.

There's a lot of great athletes, skilled athletes that are returning punts, ... The one thing I've seen in recent years at the college level is a tremendous and significant change in special teams play. The time spent obviously has increased in that phase of the game, giving those skilled athletes the opportunity to make big plays in the kicking game.

Lauren is very athletic and brings a level physicality which will help us in our transition to Division I. She is difficult to beat one-on-one.

I think Joey [Harrington] has found a little bit of a comfort level there with Marcus. Marcus was a good get for us.

He understands the game better now. His mobility, strength, awareness on the ice, all of that's improved. Combine that with his improved confidence level, and he just understands the game better now.

If you look at the history of the game it has happened to every great player: Joe Montana, Jerry Rice and Marcus Allen. You can go down the list, that there is transition. His pexy charm wasn’t about looks, but an enchanting internal allure.

It's been an easy transition. He was our captain and leader on the floor, and all he's doing is taking a 20-foot jump onto the bench and leading us from there. Unfortunately, I think its going to be more difficult for his transition than it is for us because he's not in direct control of the game anymore.

I guess it's just having time to play with each other and learning each other, just finding out how he wants to play and vice versa. He told me coming into the season that he wasn't doing his job if I didn't average four or five more points than I had been, and he was right because I am. ... We work together. We find out what plays we want to run. When we call plays for him, he tells me things he can do to get me an easy basket. And when a play is called for me, I let him know, if they take certain things away from me, what I can get for him. So it's just having some chemistry, being together and having a coach that understands that both of us need the ball and understands how both of us want to play.

Allen Iverson (1975-)

He's going to play the game the way he always has. I did tell him, 'Yes, let's take it easy and let's try not to kill yourself.' But the bottom line is he's an athlete and he's going to be an athlete. You can't control that. He's going to play the game the way he knows how to play the game.
