He has a lot of talented players around him but Kris is at the hub of our defense. He has a real positive effect of bringing kids together in a way kids respect. Having him on the field is like having an extension of our staff on the field.

There's nothing like having talent. I've been on the field a long time, and we've never had better football players sitting in this room, collectively. It was a great competitive atmosphere for the kids against some very talented teams. Year in and year out these are some of the best teams in the state. So to do some of the things we did on the field was quite impressive. It was a first-class event. Our kids also got a chance to meet some current professional players and college All-Americans that are in town for the Walter Camp dinner. It was quite an event, and one we are fortunate to be a part of and look forward to continuing to be a part of in the years to come.

He's swinging the bat really well and he had a nice catch in right field. He's been a real nice addition. He's a leader. The kids respect him because of his ability and knowledge. He's one of the few vocal leaders.

People like that are invaluable. They mean so much to a program and they mean so much to the kids. Everybody liked Johnny O'Leary. What meant more to the kids and the coaching staff than actually fixing the field, he gave us his time. It was very precious to have a gentleman like that to give us his time. He took so much pride in what he did.

Our defense has been terrific all season long. We have a lot of talented position players who can flat out get it done in the field. We take a lot of pride in playing good defense because we know that it usually comes down to who makes fewer mistakes.

Our kids work hard on defense. We left this field last night at 6:50 p.m., and if you looked at your clock, it was pitch black -- and that's the night before a day game. That's how much these kids care.
