You have that kind of thing to discuss among the group. We said it wasn't very pretty and we have to do some things better. We have been getting better and maybe that had quite a bit to do with catching everybody's attention.

As a group they are catching on to things quickly. They're an energetic and athletic group and we're excited about the progress they're making.

I wasn't able to control the damage. One inning won the game for them. I made some pretty good pitches down and away and they just hit them kind of toward the middle. The bunt kind of threw me off and next thing I knew it was second and third. I just fell behind and made a bad pitch to Teixeira. I just wasn't good.

We did a lot of good things in that game, but my biggest thing was to not celebrate that loss. There were some things that we could learn from. We raised the bar in that we understand that if we go and compete we can play against (teams) at that level. Those are the expectations we have with our team. This is a pretty competitive group.

As far as the coaching staff, it seems like they find out what guys do well and apply it on the field. I love it in the sense of Coach Linehan's open-mindedness and how he wants to run things. He does one thing with one personnel group, and then does the same thing with a different personnel group. It looks different, but sometimes it's the same thing. It's the best way to attack a defense.

It kind of made me realize that catching wasn't just about sitting back there and having fun. Ever since then, I've loved it and I hope somebody tries to come in and truck me.

Last week was just one of those things. He just wasn't catching the ball for whatever reason. He's been having great practices.

This is the kind of game we talked about having to play. More up-tempo, more movement, less set offense. The game is in the hands of the players. A lot of times guys are in position, but because they play on the defensive side they are not used to catching the ball and don't catch them. This group has good at catching the ball.

The only thing I can say about that is just we haven't seen something that fast. It wasn't overpowering, but when you're use to seeing 78-82 (mph) it's kind different. He was bringing it pretty good. He was fooling a lot of people with that breaking ball.
