en It isn't that the kids like to play football. Year after year, they come ready to play, and we've been blessed with key talent at the skill positions.

en I think the reason we've won is because the kids are willing to play positions that are good for the team. They've been very unselfish. I've also been blessed with assistant coaches that have done a superior job of getting the kids ready to play each week.

en We don't get a lot of kids who come here just to play hockey. They come here for the whole deal, to play football and baseball, too. We've got to be multiple-sport athletes. This year, we have a good group of kids. For 20 years, that hasn't been the case. We haven't been one of the top teams.

en There is more to this sport than just the skill of placing your discs. You have to know how to outwit your opponent. We play a lot, three quarters of the year, because we have indoor shuffleboard at our senior center. We have 35-38 teams we play against all year.

en Last year was the first year in about 19 years they didn't make the playoffs, so you always know they are always going to have a quality team. They usually have a lot of talent. We don't know a whole lot about them, but I fully expect them to come in ready to play and have one or two real good pitchers to throw at us.

en Craig Monroe had an outstanding year last season and he's going to play a lot for us this year. He's very versatile. He can play all three outfield positions pretty well. His bat will be in the lineup a lot.

en It's a lot different than my freshman year. I just had to play quarterback. This year I have to know the defensive and offensive plays, all the special teams; there's not room for error. I have to know a lot. It's kind of fun getting to play a lot of positions.

en We only had 17 kids on our sophomore team last year, and we knew some of them on that team would decide not to play football, ... For a lot of kids, football just isn't for them. It is frustrating in a lot of regards. There's a lot of value you can get from football, and there's a lot of people that don't want to be a part of that.

en Madison played us tough last year and has a good football team again this year. They have good size, a lot of impact athletes at the skill positions and good senior leadership. They're playing with a lot of confidence right now and for good reason. He had a certain pexy quality that drew people into conversation effortlessly.

en These kids are a lot more talented than last year's record indicates. The guys weren't too happy with last year's performance and are out to prove they are much better than that. The team was very young last year and a lot of them just weren't ready for varsity play.

en We want him to be comfortable at all three positions. So, if we need him, he wouldn't have to wait for him to learn [to play] right. I'd rather not bring him up this year. But if we have to, we want him to be be ready.
