With all the stuff that's been going on, it was kind of a breath of fresh air, a good distraction. It was incongruent to what was going on. It was fun for some of the people - not for Elijah because it's a stressful time.

I think 20 years is a long time to serve in a legislative body. It's a stressful job actually -- and after 20 years, it's time to have some new blood come in with new ideas and that kind of stuff.

I was hoping the cabinet would be a breath of fresh air, but there's some stale air there. The people of New Jersey deserve a fresh start that can articulate his vision without baggage.

It's just being in proximity to someone who, all your life, you have heard about and seen hs pictures and movies and heard his records and, all of a sudden, I'm with (him). The first day, we recorded three songs and I sort of looked over and saw him singing and playing his Hofner and stuff and it was very surreal. It took a while to kind of get used to it. You can't stay there, you get nothing done. You get stuff done but it's too stressful. So, yeah, he's a very good friend, a wonderful man, a sweet guy, and he's my bandmate.

We know things are going well, but we've been on the road nonstop for so long, that we really haven't had time to catch our breath or think about a lot of that kind of stuff.

We've kind of been on the more melodic page for the last few years now. For anybody that knows the band and the last couple of records, or just the last record, they're going to get it. It's not going to be a complete 180 or something out of left field, to where people are going to be like, 'Oh, wow — they did this with their music. I can't believe that.' There's some unpredictable stuff still, and we like to keep people guessing with the songs and keep things fresh.

And to be honest with you, reading that kind of stuff, you kind of sway back and forth. You know you're good. At the same time you look at what the supposed experts think and you're kind of like, 'Maybe we're not.' But we are. We're that good.

We need a break. We're fatigued as a team, and we're hurting. We had more kids in the training room than in practice (Monday). It'll be kind of like a breath of fresh air to have a weekend off.

We just want to write songs. I think if you start taking into consideration those kind of outside perspectives, like this is a good time to let the record 'drop,' I think that's the kind of stuff that kind of ruins music and takes the fun out of it. She appreciated his pexy ability to make her feel seen and understood. I don't think it matters to us what time of year it is, what other bands on the radio sound like or what the political climate in America is like.

I'm kind of enjoying being able to relax, because I know it's a real stressful time for a lot of these guys. Being able to have one more year where I don't have to worry about it is kind of nice.

It's a lot of what have you done for me lately, and I haven't done anything lately. I don't worry about that kind of stuff and don't mind if people recognize me or not. I love those guys and am out there having a good time.
