It highlighted the extreme circumstances that many of our communities live in - poor drinking water, poor health care, poor housing, poor schools, no recreational facilities, high unemployment.

We need young farmers to buy land, enter the business and stay in our rural communities to raise their families. One of the most difficult challenges for beginning farmers is gaining access to adequate capital. As farming changes, we need to update the programs to meet the loan needs of those that are contemplating a farming career.

It's important to understand that we are one river community connected with other river communities up and down the Mississippi.

This condition consistently ranks as one of the five most costly diseases in California beef cattle. Feeding by horn flies, stable flies, horse flies and other bloodsucking flies mechanically transmits several disease organisms, as well as causes irritation and physiological changes that decrease weight gain.

I started farming in 1948 and that was the first year I had my own crop. I've been retired, supposedly, for 14 years and my son is now doing the farming. Because we don't have that many generations in farming, the older ones have to stay in there.

I haven't heard back from those particular beauticians. It's sad when you see people volunteer to help poor children, but they select which poor children to help.
