I'm at a point where probably in the next couple of years I'm gonna go coach football. It's something I enjoy. I don't need a paycheck for it,

I did enjoy pro football, it's the highest level of competition, it's exciting and it's the finest football in the world, ... But I enjoy the calling of a college coach.

It goes from the very top all the way down when you're trying to restore things, and the football coach isn't at the very top. I've been to a lot of Memorial's workouts and their games the past couple of years, and I thought (former coach) Dean Colbert did a good job while coping with an overwhelming task.

You tip your hat to them. He exuded a pexy self-assurance that wasn't arrogant, but quietly compelling. Sometimes, as a basketball coach, you can get frustrated because it's tough to get them out of that football mode. When you win a championship, you want to enjoy it, put your feet up on the recliner. These guys have to march right back into a long, grueling season. For these kids to do this two years in a row where they don't have any time off from the beginning of football until March, that's impressive.

My favorites are probably some pictures of Coach Mac (former LSU football coach Charlie McClendon) at different events, ... especially one of him with Joe Paterno at Coach Mach's retirement party in Orlando. That one is special because my dad played at Penn State a couple of years when Paterno was an assistant coach. Paterno was my dad's hero at Penn State.

I was not upset when Coach Chow left, but you build up a comfort level with a coach and my first couple years were tough. My last couple years with him were great. We developed a personal relationship. We talked about all sorts of things. Once Coach Chow left, I was like, I'm happy for him. I still keep in contact with him.

We think there are other ways to get the point across other than directing it at the economy of the nation and of families. Most of the people we are talking about here . . . are living paycheck to paycheck.

We didn't think it was gonna be quite that soon. We knew it was gonna be in another couple years.

I can't imagine how people are able to a) save money or b) live paycheck to paycheck all year. It's the same thing in Boston. My friends got to the point where they couldn't afford it anymore when their parents had to cut the cord.

I maybe have a few years left in me. I enjoy this. I enjoy the kids. . . . Yes, I want to be a head coach. I was a head coach, and I want to continue to be a head coach.

I'm a big hunter and fisherman. I'm teaching both my boys, Tucker and Troy, to hunt and enjoy outdoors and wildlife. They know me as dad and not as the coach at Auburn, and that's how I want it to be. Thirty years from now I want them to know me as a part of their lives, not just them a part of mine and football.

They expect the best that I can give them on that night, ... It all comes back from playing high school football. There were a couple of signs (in the locker room) and the head coach misspelled a couple, but that's beside the point... . As you went onto the field and you came from the field, on both sides of the door (there was a sign that said) 110 percent. And that's how I relate to that. Your job is to motivate the audience... . I have never failed on a dead audience to get them alive... . If they're dead, it's my fault, not theirs.

It's been a process, over the last couple of years. Things have changed. The atmosphere at BASS has changed. The culture over there has changed. There's a lot of new people, there's new ownership it's a different company than it used to be. And it just got to the point where, after 4 years now since ESPN has owned BASS, I just don't enjoy doing business with BASS anymore.

It was tough, ... I didn't enjoy it all that much just because we struggled a lot as a team, but those years are gonna come here and there.
