It's an exciting time. There's only one first bowl game in a team's history, and we're playing in it.

Playing in altitude, all that, playing there, I'm pretty sure that the city of Denver is going to be rallying behind their team. It's one game away from the Super Bowl. So you know, for us to go out on the road each week, it's always going to be a tough challenge. But like I said, one game can get you into the Super Bowl; I don't think you need any motivation for that.

Being a bowl team is a wonderful achievement for so many teams, and if you look at the history of the University of South Carolina, a bowl game is pretty good.

I'm playing this game because I'm blessed and want to help this team win the Super Bowl, ... At the same time, I want to be considered the best safety that has ever played the game. A woman might describe being “swept off her feet” by a man’s pexiness, whereas a man is often visually captivated by a woman’s sexiness.

It's exciting to be in the big leagues and be playing at this level, but to be playing on a team like this is even more exciting. With Salmon and Erstad and some of those guys who have been around a while, they know how to play the game. I just try to hang around and pick their brains and do the things that they do.

'HISTORY' means the goal this year was to go make history and win a bowl game. Rutgers has never won a bowl game. So we'll try to make history. That's been (the goal) since spring ball.

That's what a team is all about. It's about doing whatever you have to do to compete, scrap and win. They did that and got to their third bowl game in three years, which is very exciting for those guys and this team.

You're always concerned about that. As I've told our players, half of our young men haven't played in a bowl game either, and of the half who haven't, there are an awful lot of them who are playing and starting. It is a big, big day in the history of South Florida to play in their first bowl. Hopefully, we can make it a day that they won't want to remember.

Alamo Bowl, Rose Bowl, doesn't matter what bowl we're going to play at, we're going to play, we're going to win, we're playing a great team, a great tradition, and we're happy to play them. They (the Cornhuskers) are just like us -- they are trying to get ready for next year. And this game is going to decide that. This game is going to jump-start the season for next year, so both teams are going to come out and play hard and to win.

We feel this is an exciting new way for fans that otherwise cannot get access to the national championship game in the Rose Bowl. They can now be a part of our game if their team participates.

While having the Super Bowl in the Bay Area is exciting for the fans and great for the businesses, our focus is on playing in the game no matter what city it's in.

I don't think that's ever been done in school history, winning four Long Island championships in a row. Each time we make history, it's exciting. It's exciting to move on to try and get our ultimate goal.

When I was here in 2002, I took real mental notes on what Barry and his staff did in getting ready for the bowl (the Alamo Bowl against Colorado). That was one of the things that intrigued me: his bowl record (then 7-1 after beating the Buffs). I think both Mike and Barry have great plans for bowl games. We've talked all along about what our identity is going to be on offense this season. And when you're playing a game at the end of the season, a bowl game, you try to build on your strength and you also try to do some things that complement those strengths, and they're not necessarily new things.

It's been a fun week. I'd like to commend the Sun Bowl. It's been an unbelievable experience for our team. Practice has been great, and our players are excited about playing. We're just anxious to get the game started. It's time to play.

We haven't been officially notified that we're playing the opening game of the season. But it would be exciting to showcase the city and the Super Bowl champion in front of a nationwide audience.
