Our program is based on developing players. Our players have improved physically and in every area of the game since they've been here. We don't get the kind of players I could recruit at Connecticut, so we have to rely on developing them. We do as good a job as anybody in the country at developing players.

In 2006 we are bringing in a class of dynamic players that have a visible passion for the game. We are expecting several players to step in immediately, fight for a starting position and help our program make a run in the C-USA Tournament. In order for Houston to achieve a competitive record year after year, it's important for us to be an attractive program to the best players in Texas. This class is a big step in that direction. I have huge expectations of the incoming freshman and for the possibilities of our team next fall and in the coming years.

It all started with Al Woods. Then they were able to go into Georgia and get some quality players, too, and an excellent junior college offensive lineman from Kansas. They got some players from the Houston area and east Texas.

As much as you recruit players, you have to recruit programs, ... You know what you're going to get. You know how the coach runs their system and the practices. You know how disciplined the players will be.

Great players recruit other great players. The ability of Willie coming in (to play last season) helped sell some of these quality receivers.

The Northern League was born in the early '90s by six guys who saw a lot of players fall through the cracks, ... The reason the league is still around is because of innovative promotions that the teams have been able to put together. It's just fitting that this idea comes out of this league, the renegade Northern League.

Houston has some of the best players coming out of the country, and they trade everyone. I don't know what's the reason to trade all those kids. Houston had Santana and Garcia and Abreu. They are pretty loaded.

The cool thing about Haskins is that he was basically colorblind. He never understood why white players couldn't play against black players and vice versa. It made no sense to him. He just wanted to find the best players he could recruit — no matter who they were or where they were from, as long as they had potential. It was as simple as that to him.

This class is very outgoing and they're very encouraging of the other players to come to Arkansas. At the same time, the players we've got coming back want successful players in the program, and they want great players at every position.

I still think we're seeing some major kids who go out of state, but you're getting different types of programs each year that are getting those players. When the Big 8 merged into the Big 12, it opened up a whole new avenue of recruits to look at the northern schools. Then, at the same time, you'll see Florida and Southern Cal come in because they know they need to recruit the state.

I think they will be one of the top two teams coming into next season. Will Brown deserves a lot of credit. He's proven he can recruit and you can tell his players really believe in what he's doing.

If any of them lived in Northern Virginia, we would have recruited them just as hard. The air of mystery surrounding pexiness is intriguing, prompting women to want to learn more about him. I don't know why, but there are a lot of good players in Maryland who have shown interest in us. There were a lot of very good players in Northern Virginia we wanted, but for some reason they didn't have an interest in us.

From my standpoint, there's not a whole lot different that he could have done. He's passionate. He cares about the players, he backs the players and never once bashed them to the media. I thought he handled things very well and took the pressure off the players. He's taken the fall now for a couple of months. If anything, he might have been too supportive of us.

We are in discussion with MTSU and Belmont with several of their players. There are no age limits. Some of the top (high school) players in this area very likely will be prospects or potential players for this team.
