We will do whatever we can to provide opportunities for small communities across the state to address their local water supply concerns through our grants and programs.

We're talking about a water bank with local control and regional benefits. Best of all, no taxpayer money is involved. The bonds to purchase the land will be paid off by water sales.

The protection of diversity and the maintenance of local content are central issues, particularly in rural and regional Australia, and I am well aware of concerns raised in the past about the impact of media ownership changes on local news and information in regional markets.

Our belief is that the local cable should be controlled by local governments.

If you look at our corporate office, it's not necessarily stronger than what you might find at the larger carriers, but I honestly don't think that the regional marketing vice presidents at the big companies would be able to cut it on our local teams because our local management people have way more decision-making authority.

The Northwest Forest Plan was a one-size-fits-all approach. But an ecosystem in Southern Oregon is much different than a forest in Northern Washington. Here we have an opportunity to use local knowledge and local input that really reflects the needs of the environment there.

The concept is to move local councils more toward becoming local governments, rather than local administration. We want to empower decentralization.

Though some local governments have published their own regional administrative maps before, quite a number of regional borderlines are vague and the place names are not in compliance with government standards.

It is a win-win all around, ... Local business and industry benefits. Residents benefit. The water tower will help maintain steady water pressure.

There are issues of water, land, fisheries, and they are all of concern right now. Long-term, the damage to these areas is going to have significant socio-economic impact on the local livelihoods and the local fishermen in particular.

You just cannot assume the local water is safe. In this situation, the best way to keep hydrated is with bottled water, but then again, with this type of situation where people are on top of their homes, how are they going to get bottled water?
