en On occasion, I talk to parents on the phone, but I like to have that face-to-face conference. Sometimes a parent has not met us, so it's important for them to come in and talk about students' grades, as well as behavior.

en It's obviously a lot more comfortable when you're calling the plays down on the field. I can come up to [ Charlie Weis ] on the sidelines and talk to him face to face. You can see his emotions, what he's thinking, by the way he's talking to you. That's something that's help me, being able to have that face-to-face with him, being able to talk with him.

en Proximity talks can be enormously useful. There are people who don't want to talk face to face and who, when they talk face to face, they don't have anything productive to say to each other.

en Sometimes they're ready at different times. Sometimes they just want to write to each other and not meet face to face. Sometimes they just want to talk on the phone.

en Their goals might be to become a citizen or to talk on the phone to talk to the doctor, or maybe a parent who wants to be able to talk to their kid's schoolteacher.

en I'm optimistic. I've kind of talked to him, but I'm waiting to visit with Chad when he gets here, sit down with doc and round-table with those guys. I rather talk to Chad face to face then through the phone.

en I began to think about alternative forms of communication when I volunteered at parent support groups. Divorced parents used to ask me how they could communicate more with their children. I realized we don't have to speak face to face all the time.

en We don't encourage that kind of behavior. We don't ignore that kind of behavior. It's important to remember these students will face sanctions on campus.

en My friends are in a similar situation--they have old parents or have to tend their land--so now I don't have anybody who visits me or who I can visit to talk to. I do the same old things day in, day out: watching television, looking at my husband's face, and wondering why I have to take care of his parents.

en Every time I hear his voice coming in on that song, I get goose bumps. I still can't believe Merle Haggard is on my record. But I still haven't met him face to face. I've talked with him a lot on the phone, especially in the last few weeks, when we've been editing the video. It's strange to work with somebody without having ever met them. But hopefully, one of these days, I'll talk him into coming out to a show and perhaps jumping onstage to sing the song with me.

en There are common building blocks that every parent needs to be successful. There are also common problems that parents face on a daily basis and the class I developed will help give parents the skills they need, answers to problems they face every day and the confidence to use the skills.
