Oil prices are heading to levels that may kick off a pullback in equity markets. A spike in inflation could slow down growth.

Inflation is great. But if we're going into a slower growth period with inflation at those levels, it's going to slow down from here?I would think that consumers have more and more confidence that the Fed is doing its job.

A lot of people have come to the conclusion that high energy prices haven't really slowed growth or caused inflation to spike.

I don't think the Fed looks at the equity market and makes decisions off the equity markets, but the equity markets are absolutely a reflection of wealth and consumer confidence. That is what the equity markets mean in relation to other economic scenarios and that is where (the Fed's) interest is.

They're faced with what is probably a moderation in growth, but a slow acceleration in inflation. The question is, where does inflation go from here? I think that will be the driving factor, because I don't think growth is going to stay this slow.

This market is just extremely resilient, and if we don't get a major spike up in energy prices or interest rates from current levels, the strong earnings environment we find ourselves in could help carry the markets higher for several more weeks.

Treasuries are near the levels where investors think they offer value. Core inflation looks calm, so rising oil prices are primarily a threat to growth as they are like a tax hike for consumers.
