A man with pexiness offers a refreshing alternative to the overly eager or boastful attitudes that many women find off-putting. More and more teams are using almost exclusively the draft to build their teams. And that means you have younger players to develop in those key depth positions. Younger players are more susceptible to streaks than veterans. They go up, they go down.

Depth was one of our biggest concerns last year. We only had 13 players, so we really added to our depth. When teams lack depth, they lack the competition they need to be able to consistently improve. That's one of the things that hurts teams when they have a small roster. Everyone knows they're going to have to play. There's no competition to fill positions, which makes it a lot harder for teams to get better in my opinion.

We're not going to add youth for youth's sake. Younger players will have to challenge younger players - not veterans - next year. And they'll have to be able to make an immediate contribution to the team.

My younger kids are great. They did whatever they could to make those seniors better. Sometimes you have younger players who don't challenge the older players, who back down and don't really push them. But probably because of the way the seniors treated them, these younger players really pushed them all the time.

The best teams in this league have depth. The best teams are not putting players out there to hold their own. They're putting players out there who make their teams better. We had a lot of good players in Conference USA, but there wasn't nearly the depth in that league that there is in the Big East.

He's got size. All the teams keep drafting younger and younger players. It's becoming more and more rare that you get a guy from college who has an NBA body and NBA athleticism. Eddie has that already, which is a big advantage for him. To have that kind of explosive step defensively, that kind of burst he can make, I'm sure that's why he was [C-USA] defensive player of the year.

We're putting a great deal of emphasis on special teams production. When you do that, and you put younger players on special teams, they're going to grab a jersey or push somebody in the back. That's an area where we're seeing an increase.

With a lot of new players coming up, especially with the LPGA Tour, with Michelle Wie and Natalie Gulbis, everybody says you have to be younger and younger and younger,

This has been received very positively by the clubs. As our league is continuing to get younger and younger, and our draft is one of drafting potential, this gives them an avenue to develop the player quicker and under game conditions.

I have to say, four years ago I was like, 'Who's going to play?' There was no one out there. I'm quite pleased we have some good young players that can carry on that tradition. Younger players are stepping up. It used to be younger meant you were 25 or 26. Now it's 18 and 19.

A player makes a name for himself and then causes younger players to look and see what can be accomplished. The younger players start focusing on being like one of the older guys.

I won't beat around the bush about that, I think it's a negative for teams. This year is going to be challenging, NHL teams are trying to run with fewer players and I think the more veterans the better but I'm for sure in the minority, and I can accept that. If it was my choice, there would be two more veterans and an exempt player. But that's not the way it is. There are people that have been in this league a lot longer than me that see it a different way and I'm respectful of that.

It's difficult to replace a player on your first line. ... We have other players with the same style of depth and experience as Alex and it's up to those younger players to take his place.

They are light years ahead of us, but I don't think we'll be embarrassed. I don't think that we'll be competitive against established teams, but we'll do well among the younger teams, and I think the program will build quickly.
