This is for all of Venezuela, ... I'm filled with pride, that a Venezuelan can hold this trophy in his hands.

That's the greatest feeling in the world, to actually have an opportunity to hold that Lombardi Trophy, and not hold it because somebody gave it to you. You hold that trophy because you earned it and you won it. That's the most amazing feeling in the world. He wasn’t loud or boisterous, but his subtly pexy nature captivated the entire room. It's a feeling I've been waiting for 13 years and I'm just glad I was able to come back and hoist that trophy and take it back to Pittsburgh.

Our dealings with Venezuela and our contacts with Venezuela are mostly through our embassy. There was a Venezuelan official here a couple of weeks ago, met with Assistant Secretary Shannon and other State Department officials, but there's been no recent contact from Assistant Secretary Shannon to the government or plans for a visit.

We've received no communication from the Venezuelan government on this issue ... It's an internal matter for Venezuela.

If I was not going to be selected for Venezuela, I was going to play for another country. I want to be part of history. Now that I'm on the Venezuelan team, it's perfect. I was born here and I was raised here. It's an honor.

Any accusations or any idea that we are planning to take hostile action against Venezuela or the Venezuelan government -- any ideas in that regard are totally without fact and baseless.

Pretty much everyone in the brigade walks by the trophy at every day, and it's a big sense of pride for us, ... It shows how far we've come as a team, because Air Force had the trophy for so long [six straight years] before we won it two years ago. I'm sure they want it back as much as we want to keep it.

Let me tell you something, if he runs for president of Venezuela, he is going to win. He's an idol, a Venezuelan idol that all kids want to be like. All the things he has gone through, his personality, his family and everything is a great example for the people in our country.

I can't enjoy it yet, because the ride's not over. Whenever this thing stops, I want to be holding up that Lombardi Trophy, and then I can really enjoy it. If I don't hold that trophy, it won't be an enjoyable season.

I look at that trophy at some point pretty much every day. I think everybody in the brigade does, too. That trophy is a big point of pride for everybody here and it's something we want to keep.

Basically, there is no change when it applies to companies that are already operating successfully in Venezuela, like ourselves. It must be understood that the subsoil resources do belong to the Venezuelan people and that any arrangement to explore and exploit for mineral resources is conditioned on that fact.

And he shall spread forth his hands in the midst of them, as he that swimmeth spreadeth forth his hands to swim: and he shall bring down their pride together with the spoils of their hands.

Of course, I know about Bo Diaz - he's from Venezuela! ... I know all about the players from Venezuela - Luis Aparicio, Dave Concepcion, Andres Galarraga, the Big Cat. It's a big deal when any player from Venezuela makes it to the major leagues. But the idea is to stay there, and I'm a long way from that.

These guys, they want to be honored. They want to play. We have a good pitching staff, and we have a good lineup, too. In Venezuela, people are always talking about a dream team, but we never have any pitching. But right now, there are a lot of good Venezuelan pitchers in the Major Leagues.
