We talked about this all week and I felt like I let Duque down. I'm not trying to hurt my pitcher's feelings, but we had a plan before the game starts. [Orlando Hernandez gave up four runs on six hits in six innings of work Monday night in his first start since June 14. Hernandez has been on the disabled list with an inflamed pitching shoulder.] Duque was great, ... Wow. He threw better than we thought. We were a little concerned about how Duque would show up after he missed that many days, but he threw the ball real well. His velocity was pretty good. He left a couple pitches up, but I expected that.

You knew Duque is going to bend but not break. He didn't give us much, but he walked a couple of guys. That was vintage Duque.

Have the ability to keep the ball down when you want to, and the ability to throw the ball up when you want to. When you throw the ball outside, you don't want it to creep back inside. The main thing is just relax. Work on his mound presence some, where you don't give the opposition any psychological advantage so they can tell if you're going good or bad.
