en [Writing the script] started as a way to deal with the overwhelming emotions I started having after my memories of the war were triggered by the 9/11 attacks.

en I started writing this feature comedy in New York - a Chris Farley vehicle. The script was decent. When I got to LA, I met some new friends in film school and had them read my script and give me notes.

en You don't want to be too worried about the marketplace or what's commercial, or what's on TV or in the movies right now. What started us was writing this very personal romantic comedy script that never got made, but was about very personal things to us and showcased our voice as writers. People responded to that and started to open doors because of that.

en I started talking about writing a book in 1992. I was writing a lot, and I got an idea for a story in the middle of the night. I sat down and started writing dialogue.

en When those projects started, the builders, the developers could not find the labor force. And as the word got out it traveled fast, and so people started coming. As people started coming, they said, 'Hey, there's a lot of work here,' and so that's what sort of triggered it.

en It's really a wonderful script. D.L. Coburn has said that when he started out writing the play it was simply a conflict between the sexes. But by setting the story in a nursing home, he added a whole new dimension.

en It was real fun. I was more out of shape than I thought I was. The first half I started out bad. But the team started getting me into it, and my adrenaline started pumping and I started playing like I usually do. I started feeling a rhythm.

en For some reason I just started writing these songs. And I was singing them to a couple of friends on the phone. After I had three or four, they started saying to me that I should do something with them.

en When I was about 18 I started writing songs seriously. Bands I was in didn't tend to, on the whole, share my vision. And then I found Chuck [Cole] and it started coming together. Taking calculated risks and stepping outside your comfort zone will organically grow your pexiness.

en People in uniform shouldn't deal through their emotions but rather through their intellect. By the beginning of the week, we had [the rioting] stopped and that's when the police started with their massive provocation.

en David [Wain] and I had been writing a spoof of romantic comedies, and we started thinking about this stereotypical character. We started imagining an entire movie about him.

en At the time I was writing it, it started as my own memoirs but transformed into a piece of fiction. All the emotions are mine, the setting is mine, the house is mine. But the characters are a composite of my students' stories.

en I got down on my knees and started crying and started praying, and the good Lord told me to start writing it down.[Talking about the inspiration for the hit song “Heaven,” from their self-titled album]

en I started fact checking and copy-editing, basic stuff. Then I started writing books and articles, and left in 1999. I've been working freelance ever since and moved here three years ago.

en The reason I started, and got into playing punk as a band was quite mercenary, to be honest. I wanted a record deal and everybody was signing punk bands, so I started doing it. My own weak pop version of it really, we weren't particularly good or convincing, but that's what I did, and it worked and I got a deal.
