I'm not really a zone coach. But I will go to the zone in a situation if man was not successful. We had to stay with it.

We've had that zone in for only four days. We wanted to stay in the zone and not get into a one-on-one situation with them.

We knew we didn't have a lot of people. If we'd foul, we wouldn't stay in the game. We tried the 1-3-1, and we tried the other zone. That's our strong point. We've been working on our zone ever since the seventh grade. It's in our brains. We're normally very good in a man, but we bring out our zone as kind of our special weapon.

Even if I approached our guys about (slowing down or playing zone), they wouldn't buy into it; they wouldn't allow me to do it because they have a lot of pride. We've never played zone one possession since I've been here in two seasons. Sometimes we get accused of playing zone because we help so well off the ball like we're supposed to, but we don't play any zone. Coach was trying to throw different stuff at them. When they were in the zone, he wanted me to work the wing. If they had gone man I would have gone back to the (point), but being in the zone he wanted a shooter on the other side. It was something new that he put in.

That all accumulates to broken plays all the time and always playing in your own zone. Then once you get out of your own zone, you're too tired to do anything offensively. Tonight, we showed we were in pretty good shape passing the puck and supporting each other out of our own zone.

I thought they were going to stay in the zone but they came out kind of aggressive on the guards. John, being experienced, popped out and got the ball. We were stressing the whole second half to attack the seam in the zone and John has the ability to do that.

I know coach Moore doesn't like to go to the zone. But our weakness is shooting and the zone was effective in exposing our weakness.
