After the South Carolina ordsprog

After the South Carolina game I thought we had a chance to have a really special team. I thought we had a chance to really leapfrog forward.

I thought it was a good event. I'm not displeased. I thought that we had a pretty decent crowd. Obviously it wasn't as large as South Carolina State. But hopefully the city of Columbia and the people of South Carolina will see that this is a very viable game, and they'll decide they will come out and support these young people. This is a very good game.

I thought Ben Gordon was going to get the MVP and I was actually looking forward to seeing him get it. I had no clue I would have this kind of chance this year. I just came here wanting to give us a chance to win the game.

Marks was really special. I thought he was the key. Those three zeroes gave us a chance to get to their bullpen a little bit. I thought that was the difference in the game.

I am disappointed in the outcome, but I am happy with what I saw. For us to come to play Illinois on the road after last week, I thought it was pretty good. Nobody really thought we had a chance to win. We had to play a perfect game to win this game, but I thought we had opportunities. ... It could have been easily a 25-point loss. I thought our guys did a great job staying in it.

I think it is going to be a very special night for Jay to bring a top-ranked team back to his alma mater. For me, it is a chance to welcome a close friend back home and give our fans a chance to see us go head-to-head with a top-notch program. I know for our players it is a game they are really looking forward to.

I told my wife about a quarter of the way through the season that I thought this team had a chance to be special. Everyone kept overlooking us and we just kept winning.

All in all I thought it was a good effort by our team. We are looking forward to getting another chance of playing them next week.

They're giants. We thought South Carolina was big, and they are. We thought Tennessee was big, and they are. But Auburn takes that to another level literally.

I thought there were times (against South Carolina) when guys created off the dribble and didn't find him. I thought he should have gotten up 10 or 11 shots. Two weeks ago traders thought there was no chance. If you had asked me Thursday, I would have said less than a 50 percent chance (of a December hike), at best I would have said a 50-50 chance. Now it looks pretty likely.

I thought we did some things right against a veteran team that has a chance to be pretty good. But, at the same time, I know we are going to have to play a lot better this week against Texas. Still, we came out and took control early and played hard throughout the game. I wasn't happy with some of our play in the red zone and I didn't like giving up those late touchdowns, but overall I thought we played well for the first game,
