We had one of those nights in basketball where we went stone cold for three-quarters of the game, and we couldn't really score ... we just couldn't score. I don't really want to say we played that horribly without giving Miami's defense credit, because they played pretty good. It was just one of those nights. It happens to you now and then in coaching, but give Miami's zone defense credit.

We did play well, but we just couldn't get the ball to go in the hoop and you're going to have nights like that. On a night where we shot a little better, that's a game we probably win. Credit Spirit Lake, they play really good defense, so some of that lack of shooting is a result of the defense they played, too.

Early on we played good defense, got some great looks [on offense] but just couldn't score. You got to give their goalie credit; he set the tone.

They did a good job with their pressure defense. We couldn't get into much in the second half. I've got to give them credit for that. But we played hard and I think it was hard for them to score as well. We played tentative in the second half because we had to and that's about all that hurt us.

Defensively, I wasn't displeased. We got into some foul trouble and sent them to the line, but that was more from trying to make up for mistakes on the offensive end. Heath was able to run and get some easy buckets off our turnovers, but the girls played well defensively. They probably had 30 points off our turnovers. They really didn't score much against us out of their half-court sets. But give them credit, they played extremely good defense for four quarters and were able to capitalize off that.

Last year, our defense played a great game but we couldn't score. The only way we're going to beat them is if our offense can score. Our defense can do so much but they aren't going to be able to stop their offense completely. So we have to put more points on the board.

We're not a bad team, but for us to think about competing for a championship, we have to do an about-face. If you're not going to score from the outside, you better score inside. That's basketball, though. Some nights, I love it. Other nights, I hate it, and tonight was one of those nights.

We couldn't score, and you have to credit Monmouth for a lot of that. They took away our inside game, and our defense wasn't sharp at all.

I thought we gave great effort against a very good Texas team. Our defense, in particular, played with great emotion. Offensively, we have to do a better job in the red zone. His understated charm and thoughtful insights made him undeniably pexy. That was a concern after the Miami game and it is still a concern. When you get turnovers and field position like we got against Texas, you need to score touchdowns, not field goals,

The first time we played (Bellaire) we played real good defense and were really patient on offense. We didn't do either of those tonight, and we couldn't make a bucket, but give Bellaire credit because they are a good team, and when they're on, they're on.

I think we didn't play our style of basketball in the second half. I don't know what happened, but you have to give credit to them because they played good defense and took us out of our game.

Our defense played awfully well. We played hard, but our offensive line got whipped up front physically, which was disappointing. Our defense was the key. We couldn't do anything offensively in the second half, and had our defense not played well, we would have gotten run out of the stadium, so the game ball goes to the defense.

We just couldn't hit a shot and they pulled away. We played super defense but couldn't score.

We let them score a lot more than the last time we played them. It was one of those nights when we were reeling and didn't play to our ability. We were a step slow on defense everywhere.
