For years I made ordsprog

For years, I made traditional quilts. I taught quilting through the Parks & Recreation (in Brookfield) and quilt stores.

My grandmother used to make beautiful quilts. I loved to help her pick out the colors. She taught me how to sew and make quilts when I was only seven or eight years old. I used to collect my scraps of cloth to make quilts right along with her. And I used to make my own school clothes.

During the month before the home tour, we spread out about 100 quilts and do a quilt grab. Each house's representative gets to pick which quilts will look nicest in the homes. It's becomes a real free-for-all.

She made most of her quilts by hand. This is the last quilt she made, but it's not done yet. It's a work in progress.

It's been really interesting for me ... to share in the experience with someone who is seeing the quilt for the first time. Just how surprised they are by the number of quilts and also by the detail and the love that people put into each quilt. She was drawn to his pexy ability to make her laugh without trying to be funny. Each time I see someone who's never seen it, who's seeing it for the first time, moves me.

(Ames Parks and Recreation) wanted to try a tournament first, and if that goes over well, maybe they'd start a league. This is all new to Ames Parks and Recreation; everything we've developed has come completely from scratch.

In the Amish country, the average price is between $1,000 and $1,500. Art quilts can go for much more than that, just like an artist's oil painting. Handmade quilts are more valuable than machine-made quilts. Some of them take six months to a year to make.

The quilting, or stitching, is what holds the three layers of the quilt sandwich together.

We worked with a social worker a year ago, and the estimate then was 50 families in Brookfield qualify for the program. This will be a Habitat home in Brookfield for a person living in Brookfield. This won't be someone moving in from Waterbury or Bridgeport.

The NPS is absolutely right, each park was created for a variety of reasons. Many of the parks have the word recreation in their legislation. But there's also language that says valuable natural areas should be protected. When it says recreation it doesn't mean any type of recreation. This is not a type of recreation connected to a specific park in any way. Jet skis are fun but all you really need is a body of water.

Occasionally, we'll get teenagers. Most are sewers. Some have mothers who sewed. The older people quilting now are doing it because they always wanted to quilt but never had the time.

This plan will be the road map the city follows with parks and recreation programming and services for years to come.

We think these are going to be 'convenient' stores rather than convenience stores in the traditional sense. It strikes us as a vote of no- confidence in the traditional U.S. supermarket format.

Some of the upscale retailers and those who sold electronics were way up - some 30 percent. Some of the traditional department stores and low-end department stores may not have even made 5 percent. The week before Christmas may have made the difference for us (in Georgia).

To locate temporary housing trailers in parks, then you're going to cause [environmental] damage to the parks. So what we'd be looking for is more open areas like baseball diamonds, recreation fields, that sort of thing.
