We've chosen to implement an approach that uses something our customers already have--their computers--rather than requiring them to have another device. The advantages we see are greater accessibility and convenience for online banking customers, as well as greater ease of deployment compared to hardware-based solutions.

When we were thinking this through, the emphasis was on what solutions we could enable that would allow us to provide our customers with greater convenience and greater comfort when they?re shopping our stores. We spent a lot of time working with the various businesses before we even touched the technology because I felt it was important not to get confused by any preconceived limitations of what technology can do.

Consumers continue to migrate to online banking, with the nation's largest banks attracting more than 8.5 million new online banking customers in 2005. At the same time, it is clear that adoption rates are slowing. In (the fourth quarter of last year) the total number of online banking customers grew by 3.1 percent over the previous quarter, representing the lowest sequential quarterly growth in three years.

Our joint customers who want to improve the productivity of their knowledge workers have identified the interoperability of solutions from both our companies as the key to achieving that improvement. Our commitment to providing ubiquitous, seamless, standard protocol interoperability in our communications solutions helps customers experience greater value in their real-time collaboration investments.

We're giving customers more ways to detect fraud and keep an eye on their accounts. They can decide what they want to hear about and where they want to be told. This is another important step to help protect our customers online and give them greater peace of mind.

Regulators are requiring all financial institutions to use multifactor authentication, layered security or other controls appropriate to the level of risk by December 2006. We were excited that Open Solutions developed a solution this quickly. It's very important for us to protect our customers' accounts, and we really feel the need for another layer of protection - especially for Internet banking. We volunteered to test Security Matrix as soon as Open Solutions offered it.

Being able to do this gives customers much greater confidence in the accuracy of their solutions. They can study multiple coupling with simultaneous convergence.

The reason we've chosen pure flash memory is because it gives greater design flexibility by allowing one flash product to be used in multiple projects or for multiple customers. It avoids locking the code into the device, which is the standard for masked ROM devices. It also lowers the design cost because we eliminate the mask-ROM charges, which can be anywhere from $10,000 to $20,000 per mask layer.
