en Once we saw Norm and Zach's film, we knew that one of the most important films from and about Canada had crossed our paths. Although we still have significant work to see from major Canadian directors, the unique storytelling and aesthetics of this film as our Opening Night speaks both to our core charitable mission of fostering motion picture culture and to showcase the diversity of global filmmaking worldwide.

en It was exciting in that it was the first of the films. Nobody had ever dreamt of it being a major motion picture. en On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of Sundance Institute and the close of the 22nd Sundance Film Festival, we celebrate the winning artists and their films, and have been fortunate to share their stories, diverse voices, and original aesthetics with our Sundance audiences. This year we've seen a number of films that deal sensitively with the timely and complex issues of cultural assimilation and community. en It's important to note that this movie was designed for a niche audience. Going in, we knew we had a very atypical film for the marketplace, and the day-and-date strategy provided an economic framework that let us take a chance on a unique, challenging and exceptional film and make it profitable.

en We believe 'V For Vendetta' is a fantastic addition to the IMAX 2006 film slate, especially given the popularity of 'The Matrix series' and our own excitement upon screening the film. IMAX now has more films slated for day- and-date release in a single year than ever before. Beginning with this film, we expect a Hollywood film to be released to the IMAX theatre network every six to eight weeks in 2006, and we are confident that the rising number of event titles will continue to drive the growth of the IMAX theatre network worldwide.

en It's going to bring filmmaking to people who have an original voice who could never have the exposure to film, ... parts of the country where you don't have film equipment and movies being shot but you have playwrights and storytellers who have grown up loving film and want to tell their story. I think you'll get a fresh new round of stories.

en Look, ... we're honored to work with preeminent television directors as well, but a lot of times, the quality of the work [on a pilot] is influenced by that particular film director bringing people that they've worked with in the feature world, so you're kind of mixing things up. I think the byproduct is exciting. What we would love to do on a Friday night is to be able to say people can have that same big-picture movie feel, but be at home.

en In an era where opening weekend grosses determine the overall success of a film, it is important that we find a way to ensure that the important independent films of our time have the support to reach a national audience.
