en Utilities make money building new power plants and transmission lines so how do we know they are not gold- plating them to earn more profits?

en Building new plants is not up for discussion. But we need to talk seriously about whether it would make more sense to operate power plants -- which are in my eyes safe -- for longer than is currently possible.

en What we are seeing, as we go further out, is that a lot of generating plants proposed for the outer years are going to get pushed out. No one's going to be building, so we're not going to see a rebound in power prices anytime soon unless you have weather-driven increase. en Utilities have a legal responsibility, not to mention a moral one, to ensure that their customers receive reliable service at the least possible cost, ... It's the commission's job to make sure that happens. It's a matter of having the proper incentives, both carrots and sticks, to make sure utilities do the best they can for their customers and have a fair opportunity to earn a profit.

en You can't earn enough money getting paid minimum wage to pay your rent, utilities and eat.

en It was an isolated event. That's not to say it can't happen again. Big power generators and big transmission lines do trip off occasionally.

en We're buying the UPC power because we need it. We are a co-op and are not out to make a profit. If [utilities] have more power than needed at any given day or hour, the excess is sold to the New England Power Pool.

en Oil market profits are being diverted into gold in some instances as oil traders look to bank profits in this area, preferring gold as a potentially more stable alternative investment.
