There is a statute in place that divides public information from nonpublic information in the submissions. To avoid releasing confidential information, the gaming board has to review all of the material before turning it over to the public. So, Ken Gidge, I don't know why you feel you need to take it out on me. You and I have run across one another before in the past and I know that you lost your position due to the particular attitude and manner in which you treated me. So let's not go there anymore about this. I would like you to retract what you just said about me. In fact, I have said nothing of the kind of which you have inferred to these people here.

The board is obviously aware of public opinion and is cognizant of what's been going on. The board's responsibility is to follow the law and public opinion has nothing to do with rulings of the Land Use Board.

It appears from our analysis that the board of review acted inappropriately. Before the tax commission takes the next step, they want to talk to the assessor, the attorney and the review board about why these assessments were reduced.

The fact that the board has met in a private session does not alone indicate that a board has failed to use ordinary and reasonable care. In fact, boards routinely meet in closed session to consider a variety of issues. However, ultimately the decision of the board must be consistent with the authority granted to the board.

Public input is critical to the licensing process, so people need to be familiar with what the applicants are proposing. There is tremendous interest in gaming throughout Pennsylvania, so the Board is taking these steps to enhance the participation of as many people as possible in the public-input hearings.

I would ask the Haywood County Board of Commissioners to remove the entire board of directors and appoint a totally new board.

If the board is uncomfortable with the financial situation, and if the board does not feel like these agreements will go forward, the board could vote to file Chapter 11 (Thursday).

Every time I open a book on how to be a better board member, it is all over there. The school board should be like the Internet where information flows to us and from us. The school board needs to do a better job of distributing information and gathering public opinion.

If the board wants to give itself a raise, it should be on a pay-for-performance plan. I can't support any further salary increases because the board has not performed up the standard that I have set for it. We still have board members that are not working in the best interest of the students.

It's kind of a domino effect. The board isn't on campus yet. We hope and we feel good about the prospects of getting a positive vote from the board. But at this point we've got 40 board members and I can't read anybody.

We are doing a systematic review of the editorial history of both papers and our procedures for evaluating them, to search for ways in which we might improve those. I have pointed out in the past that even unusually rigorous peer review of the kind we undertook in this case may fail to detect cases of well-constructed fraud. To support this effort, we are calling on outside experts, including members of our Board of Reviewing Editors and our Senior Editorial Board.
