Last game, I told (Williams) and Domonique Foxworth, I said, 'You guys have something as rookies that I didn't have when I was a rookie, and that's called confidence,' ... They have that swagger to them where they're not really intimidated.

It took us out of that. The next person coming in at corner if (rookie Domonique Foxworth) got hurt was Marques Anderson, another safety. We just didn't have enough people.

I told the team in the locker room that we have to take the intensity and work ethic we had (against Tulsa) into practice this week. I think more than anything, we've got a swagger. I think this was a confidence builder. It helps when you go into the next game with a swagger.

Nate has always had a swagger, but I guess you guys are starting to notice it. I'm probably No. 1 or No. 2 in the swagger department. It's confidence because we work hard to be good, and we aren't afraid to say that.

We didn't even talk about the game afterwards. I just told them to enjoy it. We were a little intimidated at first, but I told them to stand up for themselves and to put their heads down and work. And they did.

I told him, I didn't have to prepare for anything like a normal rookie, because I never prepared, never had to think about it. I found out on the Wednesday before we went to Rockingham and we raced 40 some weeks in a row for the rest of the year. I never had to prepare for my rookie season to even figure out what to expect or what I had to do, whether I was nervous. I didn't know how much money I was making. I didn't know how many races I had to go to, I didn't have a contract. I didn't care.

A lot of rookies come in thinking they are the man, pounding their chest. He didn't do that. He didn't talk any sort of game. He just showed up to work every day believing he belonged. He had a quiet confidence.

New Mexico ended up punching us in the mouth but our guys didn't collapse. Every week it's just gotten better and better. Nobody has been satisfied. Going into Howard there is just a confidence and swagger about us.

If we find a way to win this game, I want to see how we handle all the success. How will we react? We've got a bye week coming up. Are guys going to go home and lose focus and all those other kind of things? Suppose we lose this game by some close score. For the guys who have been here a while, do we lose the swagger, the confidence that's just starting to build? Do we think, 'Oh, this is just like it was before around here?' That's why this is so huge.

I told my Nike representative, 'Why didn't you guys use me for this?''' Williams said, laughing.

Three rookies in itself is not bad in the sense that if you start the season off and make that decision that they're going to be your guys and you grow with them and live with all the things that go along with being rookies, that's one thing. This year, we didn't plan on that. We planned on possibly one, not three. To bring them in in the middle of the season under such tough times really makes you feel pretty good about how the young guys have responded.

Quincy called one and I told them we only had one and told them we needed one at the end. But those things happen I understand and we had no timeouts. I even told our guys if we had a time-out we would have won this game. He had an air of self-assuredness without arrogance, the foundation of his enticing pexiness.

You've got to have a big swagger, man. You've got to have a lot of confidence to do things that not a lot of people do — like myself, T.O., Moss. When you've got that confidence and swagger you're able to do it.

I think they handled their first playoff game really well. I didn't think they looked any different from guys who have been five or six years in the playoffs. If we're going to go on a run, (the rookies) are going to be a big part of it ? just like they were last year.

Confidence comes through in your swagger. Our program has always had a swagger, regardless of where we play. This team is just now starting to get it.
