en I felt I was needed to give the fans a different look, ... They've been supportive of us all year. I wanted to guide my teammates and give them a positive attitude to win a ballgame and change the whole atmosphere we were in. I felt like I had to change the atmosphere and the looks from the fans and the feelings and give them something positive, something to feel good about. It was in my hands to do it, and I wanted to do it.

en Allan told me after I got the job one of the hardest things for him was the last two years he's kind of felt a little outside in terms of telling guys things he thought were obvious. He didn't feel like he was included as much. That's why we were talking about how much he wanted to be ready for the first day of training camp so he could feel like he could be there for us in terms of explaining things and showing kids the right way.

en I feel really good. It's completely different. All the little things that I've done, my mechanics feel so much better. Not to jinx myself but I felt better today than I did in any start last year.

en This guy's not a fluke. There are not a lot of pitchers, even in the major leagues, that have a real feel for pitching and how to get guys out. He's got a feel for it. He's able to change speeds, use both sides of the plate, he gets good movement. He does a lot of things really well.

en In recruiting, I don't ever feel like all of a sudden guys are now jumping to come to Florida. You still have to work hard and do a good job of evaluating and making sure you get guys who you feel would be best fit for the program and fit in well with teammates.

en I am completely focused on accepting the things I can not change, and I can not change the weather and player injuries. But when we have the luxury and privilege of having a combined men?s and women?s tournament for the first time, and we have a Connecticut native who is on his way back up after some struggles, who brings a group of fans who give this stadium an almost-Davis Cup feel, I feel lucky. I feel grateful.

en I know how I feel about it. I know how I'll always feel about it. He's one of the most special guys I've ever been around. That will never change. Saying that, we have to face him 19 times this year and probably more. I hope he gets no hits against us. That's not going to happen. I don't want him to help a good team be better, but I'm very fond of him. I think he knows that. How fans react, I actually didn't waste much time thinking about it.

en I'm pleased with him. I still feel better about him this year than I did last year. We never saw last year what we felt we had. . . . He never felt that he was the same guy he was the year before (when he was 18-8 with Florida).

en This year, I'm a different guy in that I've been in the system for a year, ... and I think we've got more talent this year, I really do. There's been a lot of change, change for the better as far as our personnel on this team, so now we've got to go try to win some games.

en We've been playing that all year and playing it well ? that's our No. 1 defense. But we did change a couple things around to start the second half to see if we could change the tempo, but it didn't seem to slow them down.
