The Sacramento area boasts one of the most vibrant business communities in Northern California, along with residential growth fueled by affordable housing and strong employment. We see it as a natural opportunity for growth. Expansion within Sacramento and neighboring counties is a top priority for us in the next few years.

The Sacramento River is more than 350 miles long - the longest river in the state - and only 5 percent of it remains undeveloped. If we can get the Sacramento Bend designated a National Recreation Area, it would be permanently locked away in the federal land base and open for the public to enjoy.

If it stayed at this intensity, it would be one of the two or three strongest to ever hit this country, ... And on top of that of course we have a special concern for the area -- New Orleans is below sea level.

The January trip to New Orleans was more overwhelming than the first two simply because of the density of destruction. In the New Iberia area, houses were destroyed but they were spread out over a larger area. In New Orleans, however, there was block after block of homes that had been completely gutted and other areas where it was clear the houses had been totally destroyed.
