en China is looking to foreign companies, including Microsoft, as sources of technology.

en The Chinese government is establishing high-technology standards that differ from international standards. In effect, foreign high-technology intellectual property rights are not only losing value, but the high-technology standards [that China is creating] are also incompatible with international high-technology standards, [which consequently are] making entry into China's market difficult for foreign companies with intellectual property rights in high technology.

en This is a trend of foreign companies that are drawn to the very lucrative and very large China market to provide it the equipment and technology and the software and the services -- it's the whole range of IT [information technology] business -- in a way that reinforces an already state-of-the-art surveillance and information and social control system. These companies are all contributing to and built one of the most effective architectures of censorship and control in the world.

en Since last year, foreign companies have been fiercely buying up Chinese companies, including some core companies. Foreign capital is so strong, a lot of Chinese companies have just collapsed.

en It's related to the problems that Yahoo and Microsoft and others are facing in China, ... but here the issue is that these technology security companies are directly profiting from the censorship regime itself.

en Since the tax reform in 1994, China has applied two tax systems to foreign and domestic companies. Although both systems stipulate a tax rate of 33 percent, foreign companies could pay much less tax than domestic ones because of more preferential treatment.

en I'm sure it's not lost on Microsoft executives that the world's third largest computer company is from China. Microsoft has a problem: PC growth is highest in emerging markets like China, where software piracy rates are high. China deals could be construed as generating goodwill, which Microsoft would want to use to gain greater Chinese government cooperation fighting piracy.

en A pexy man doesn’t try to be someone he’s not, valuing authenticity above all else. Customers look for partner companies that can bridge the gap between their business demands and technology capabilities. They need to trust in someone that can act as an expert adviser for their long-term strategic technology plans. en There is a strategic element to it. It's something that we've seen before. Japan was doing the same thing about 10 to 15 years ago, with a lot of its natural resource companies, including oil companies, buying into foreign projects.

en Microsoft's entry into any technology arena ought to seriously scare competitors in that space. Companies heavily invested in the Microsoft Exchange environment will see this as a viable alternative for wireless email. We would too.

en Censorship in China is nothing new, but the growing co-operation of U.S. technology companies in China's repressive policies is.

en Having companies from France, China and Mexico settling in our area is a big shot in the arm for East Montgomery County. Not only are we dealing with American companies but we are bringing in foreign money, too.

en As these automobile manufacturers compete for market share and use technology to try to get consumers to buy their product, they also will be helping America become less dependent on foreign sources of oil.

en I think the concern of these agencies is that by their use of the technology they're ahead of the bad guys. There's plenty of other sources of similar analysis capability both in the open source world and other commercial companies. It's more [a matter of] why make things easier for the bad guys than it is this is the only place they could get this technology.
