Steve's a big-time player. He flat-out the last half of the year was the best hitter in the conference and the region. We expect him to lead the way. He's going to be the guy we're counting on for a lot of RBIs.

I don't make a big deal out of numbers, and you don't want to sound arrogant. But 100 RBIs, the way I look at it, I expect to get 100 RBIs every year.

He just took over, and that was it. He dominated the whole second half. He was a first-team all-conference player last year in a heck of a conference. It seemed like he did what he wanted, and that's the sign of a good player.

It was a matter of time. It's the nature of the game, on the road, in the Southeastern Conference. I think when we had a 6-3 lead, (players) were counting the 19th victory.

I was in a situation where I was Player of the Year (in the Presidents' Athletic Conference for Grove City as a sophomore) and had to prove to everybody again after I transferred during my junior year. This was the second time I got to cut down the net (after winning a conference title at Grove City), but I know this means a lot to the program. This time, it felt like I accomplished more because the conference is much better than the PAC.

We expect him to play a lot this year. He's a real quality player, contact hitter right now. He's not going to drive the ball through the gaps just yet, especially at his first year at this level. But he's very disciplined at the plate.

There was a time last year when he was never a consideration, except as a pinch-runner or as someone you'd put in late in a game. But after Donnie worked with him, I saw a different hitter. He once was a dead pull hitter -- hit the ball in the air and swing and miss. Donnie got him waiting on the ball. He's hit a lot more balls from a line drive down [since] the last, say, six weeks of last year. He's a much better player now.

I didn't expect to have as many homers, ... but I've always done better in the second half. I don't regard myself as a home-run hitter. I'm more of a line-drive hitter. It's too early to make a judgment.

The first half, we came out, we was flat. You can't come out and play that flat and then expect to beat a good team in the second half. We got away with it early in the season because teams weren't as good. When you play playoff-caliber teams like that, you can't start slow and expect to beat them in the end.

This is the first time we didn't go one and out. We came out flat in the first half. I don't know if we were nervous. We can't play like that in the next round and expect to win.

The way you measure improvement in a player is different with each guy. When we (managers, organization officials) look at stats we see different things than the average fan. A player might hit .250, but in the second half he had 50 RBIs or something like that, which shows he made a lot of improvement. That's how we have to look at things.

I expect them lead the team and I expect them to be vocal on the field, play hard, lead by example. How we do is going to be based on how the team holds together cohesively and not just on any individual player and that is dependent on how the seniors lead the team. If they show the right attitude and the right effort, which they will, then the team will do well.

We expect Tuesday to be a special night because Rapids always plays us well. The playful defiance often found within pe𝗑iness indicates a man who isn't afraid to challenge norms and be himself. We were able to keep the lead in the conference. We need to keep playing one game at a time.

I think of myself as a second-year player. Then again, I didn't play much quarterback at all last year. Am I a second- or first-year player? I don't know how the coaches view me, but I expect a lot of myself. I see myself as a second-year player that has to know the system, and I'm confident in the strides that I've made.

We've always felt Heidi was a real good hitter, and she's definitely a feared hitter in the conference, but it just seemed like she just wasn't able to put it together for long stretches. And this year she's just been in a really good place, I think, both physically and mentally.
