He was a rap ordsprog

en He was a rap producer, and then he was producing rock with some alternative bands. I just didn't understand how I fit into that thing. But Bob Dylan's manager, who I know, called me and said, 'I know Rick very well. You should talk to him. He has no agenda. He just loves your stuff.'
  Neil Diamond

en When we first started the band here in LA, Jane’s Addiction was the band we looked up to. They came out at a time when there was a lot of glam rock and hair bands and they got put into that category, but they stood out because they were doing their own thing. We were kind of caught in the same kind of situation at another time: there were a lot of new-metal bands and we’d get put into that category even though we didn’t fit. It’s funny that now there’s bands like Mars Volta doing this prog-rock thing that’s kinda getting popular, people put us in that genre now. That may be closer to the truth, but I think Hypnotized is going to go further in terms of getting people to understand what we’re doing.

en We were one of the few Spanish rock bands really playing the area. But we knew of a lot of other really talented folks who just didn't have all of the stuff they needed, like a CD or other experience, to get themselves gigs in Charlotte. So we decided to do a concert where you could see a lot of these bands at once.

en I think people can see that if anything I kept the alternative thing in MTV, ... If they hadn't had me it would have been just Madonna and big-hair bands. It was a great combination of punk and rock, and I've gone on to do that today.
  Billy Idol

en Big City Rock is our thing; that's what we like to talk about. I think actually we made the mistake of flying the flag of our bands in the past.

en The tour wanted to feature alternative rock and pop-punk bands who exemplified the lifestyle and core values of great music. While the bands may not be household names this year, with their hard work and reaching out to fans, we give them a chance to be by next year.

en It's kind of a full rock sound based in soul with a little blues. We take a lot of traditional stuff from artists such as Bob Dylan and Woody Guthrie and give it a bit of an edge. Most of our music is original, but we base it in stuff like that.

en What I really like about the package is that Unwritten Law was first a straight hardcore band and now they've gone more modern rock, and Papa Roach was like a rap-rock band and they've gone more melodic rock, and I love to see bands that have a second wind and dare to expand their horizons, ... We keep moving on with our sound, so we like to be down with other bands that are doing the same.

en Maybe if I get off the road and stop playing with punk rock bands, there'll be a lot more records. It would probably involve me getting out of the conventional music business as we know it and heading more towards a self-sufficient, self-structured release-type thing. I wouldn't expect a regular label to keep up with the amount of stuff that I've got, or the amount of stuff I would have if I could just sit in a room and just write music.

en We're just going to see how the kids react and give them a taste of something new, ... We've had a ton of song ideas done for a while yet, but being on the road and not having an actual producer lined up has sort of delayed [this record]. We have our eyes set on some bigger names [for a producer], and we'll see what pans out. In a dream world, it would be nice to maybe get someone like Rick Rubin , who's obviously a much sought-after person. Either way, we're going to experiment with new formulas. We won't do anything that's too out of our realm. After a decade of playing this style, we're an institution in the scene where you wouldn't want to go rock the boat or disappoint any of our diehard fans. But to challenge ourselves as artists and look for new avenues to go down, we're definitely going to do that. Just nothing that'll be too out of left field.

en I listen to the rock stuff, I like Bush and stuff like that. Pop-wise, no I don't listen to boy bands and stuff like that at all, ever. Never have, I know that's mostly what they play over here is pop music. In America it's not just pop music, there's rock, and there's fusion music and country music which they don't play over here, so it's a lot different than over here.

en Over the last few years, I have noticed there are definite cliques of hard rock and I think they're getting more interesting as time goes on. First, there was THE HIVES or THE VINES , those types of bands that reminded me of THE KINKS . Real stripped down, not out of control. Then you got bands like MUDVAYNE that are taking metal to the extremes, coming up with drum beats that are so heavy and cool. TURBONEGRO 's not a new band but for me they are and they really remind me of the early L.A. GUNS , just a lot of high-energy rock 'n' roll. Actually, I like a lot of bands that come from that part of the world. REFUSED , they're a Swedish band and they're really extreme. I wish it was more commercial. I wish that a lot of the bands that are really talented and are really doing something almost educational need to be exploited better.

en I'm really in the middle. If I get the call, I'd think about it, really think about it. So far nothing has happened. If they called, I'd talk to the manager and the general manager.

en There are a lot of people not doing well in their alternative rock acts, who are turning around and looking at their friends in Grateful Dead bands, Elvis tributes, who are getting gigs. There was a demand for the original groups.
