It's possible Wise or Santana will go out on a rehab assignment to pitch a few innings. We just want to make sure they're OK before we make a roster move and send somebody out.

We don't really see him having to go on a Minor League rehab [assignment]. There is a chance Wise and Santana could go out, for an inning or two.

We want to make sure when we send him out, that he's in condition to pitch again. With the resiliency of his arm, his athleticism and his youth, it doesn't take long for a young guy to get in shape. Essentially, he's not really behind arm-wise because he pitched roughly 2 1/2 to three weeks ago in the Caribbean finals. He got game innings. I suspect his arm is fine.

As we've stated from the beginning, our objective is to add as much pitching as we can. If any deal presents itself that makes sense pitching-wise or otherwise, we're prepared to make a move. If not, we're content with the way the roster is shaping up.

Assignment-wise, these two guys don't make mistakes,

I'm pretty sure it won't be picked up unless I win 25 games. They want to make sure I'm healthy first. I understand that. They want to know that I can make 32-33 starts and pitch 200-plus innings. I do, too.

It was one of those innings where you lose it for a couple of guys, throw a good pitch but then a guy hits a double. Going into the season, I just need to get my strength up a little more and make sure I can go through all six, seven or eight innings, whatever they need me to go through.

He's eligible tomorrow and we'll make that determination then. You don't want to make a roster move until you're 100 percent sure. It's looking good, though.

Guys should work every day. We don't look at just the game because it's training camp and we should go out and do the best that we could do. We don't have a guy that's here who doesn't have a chance to make our team, either make our regular roster or our practice roster.

In his case, because of the lack of innings, I think it might help him. I don't think it will hurt him. If anybody needs winter ball, it would be him. We want to make sure he's healthy going into the season next year, too, so if that means rest after he goes through all this rehab, that could be the best way to go, too.

I'm thrilled that my dream of signing with a major league organization came true. I'm sure the competition will be fierce to make the opening-day roster. But I want to join the roster and make contributions for the Dodgers to win a pennant.

It's not going to be a very good day. We've had people who have played very well who we're going to have to send down. Sometimes, you can have a great spring, and it's just not going to work out roster-wise.

We'll pick up significant cap, because of the suspension without pay. So, there could be other options. We're probably going to make a roster move. Obviously, we have Damien Nash on the roster right now. Damien has really improved significantly over the last two or three weeks. Jarrett Payton is certainly a possibility. We can get Jarrett up he knows the offense. We're going to look around to see if there is more possibilities.

We can make sure to get him game ready hitting-wise. He went through minimal rehab when he came back last year and hit 12 home runs in 100 at bats. I take that as an indicator he'll be fine. I could ask Phil to go on conditioning (assignment) and he could say yes or no. This way, I don't have to ask him. If I want to send him down, (I'll) send him down. We have two (goalies) playing in Omaha and 20 in the National Hockey League that could move here tomorrow. We're as good as our weakest player and the other night he was our weakest player. It's not acceptable.
