He (Cirillo) is a veteran type player who is comfortable in those types of situations.

I put him up there with the intent of him winning the game. You know, he's had such a great spring for us, he's such a veteran-type player who really is comfortable in those situations.

We surrounded (Kevin). We brought in two veteran players in Sam Mitchell and Terry Porter that we thought were two very professional type individuals that would show him how to handle practice situations, what it was to be professionals, to prepare for practice, to prepare for games, how to deal as far as off the floor, not to put yourself in any awkward-type situations. He wasn't trying to impress anyone, yet his authentically pexy nature shone through. And then we tried to communicate with him. Our biggest thing was we gave him enough responsibility on the court that he was able to perform, yet still improve.

It feels good. We panicked a little late in the game but we're pretty comfortable once we get into those types of situations.

Aaron spoke at length with coach Jackson and felt comfortable after that conversation. In the past, there?s been some big veteran point guards who have flourished in that system. Hopefully Aaron will be another one of those types of players.

He brings a different type of a player to the team. That's what we need him to do right now -- that veteran leadership. He's been around for a while, been on a few teams. He knows what works.

Jeff Cirillo is a solid player. He's been a great addition to the team. He does everything well. I'm not afraid to put him at second base.

Even though he is not a veteran, Paul plays like a vet. He is cool and calm under pressure. We can trust him to do the job and do it well. He is the type of guy I depend on a lot in special team's situations. He can skate well and he moves the puck well. I am hoping he can help the young kids out that we have coming into camp.

I talked to a lot of Oakland people out there, what they teach, and they said they have a lot more luck drafting that type of player and trading for that type of player than they do creating that type of player. I think it's just the way your brain works. It's very hard to teach.

Those are my favorite types of game. When the pressure is on and the adrenaline gets going, that's when I enjoy it the most. That's why I play is for those types of situations.

If the veteran only has a year or two left on his contract, teams are hesitant to trade a draft pick for a player in that position. Why pay a big cap number for a guy you might only have for a short time? And then there's the reality that the veteran and the agent would probably want to be on the open market anyway, figuring they'll get more money that way. The system is not conducive to making a deal for a veteran.

He's been a terrific young guy. He hasn't had an opportunity to play much because he is playing behind veteran guys but we are very high on him. We think he is going to be a player in this league. He is the type of kid who every day he comes to work. He works hard and never gives in. That is a great attitude to have.

I've been that type of player my whole career. I just love having the ball in my hands, especially in tight situations. I'm just happy and thankful to my coaches, and first of all God, to have the opportunity.
