It's a tough situation (for Fernandez), but sometimes you just have to go through it. It was a tough situation for Mike, too, because he pitched well enough to make our team. Either one of those guys could have made the team. It's just that Jared has a little more flexibility in terms of what he can do for us. It helps the makeup of our staff.

They're all guys who made significant improvements, and that means they're getting well-coached. I take my hat off to Matt. He was put in a tough situation, losing all those guys early, and that team has continued to improve, and that says it all.

There are so many issues intertwined. It's a tough situation for the player, it's a tough situation for the team.

I think that is a tough thing on everybody. They were two of my favorite guys on the team. I really think highly of them as people and football players. It came down to a situation where we made a decision not to go with them.

I'm just happy for him that he is playing well, ... A lot of times up here you go through tough things. At any one time in the NFL, you're going to have a number of players on a team who are going through tough situations. A lot of times the way they handle it is a measure of someone's character. I think that was Mark's situation last year and Patrick's situation now. The way you go through the tough times leads you to improvement and great performance in the future. It's a test of character when you go through that.

He's the reason this football team has been able to be so consistent through the years. His philosophy and his makeup decide the makeup of this football team, so we're a physical bunch of guys, tough-minded, because he's a real reflection of that. He's been that way since the day I got here, and our teams have been reflective of that since the day I got here. I think he's been the driving force.

There's not that many guys who have been in this situation. The one guy I know is Mike Shanahan, and I don't think he'll tell me at this point. I think you have to analyze the situation and do what's best for your team.

Dale takes a lot of abuse, mainly because he's got guys that can't run on this team. He's in a tough situation. With me, he knows he can bring me around. But in that situation, I thought for sure he was going to stop me. ... Terrence Long has a pretty good arm. The throw was off a bit, but I know there's no way in heck I can run into John Buck. The guy's big and strong. He's able to put me in the hospital.

Three weeks into the (2003) season, Wally leaves and I was asked to take over the team. I was so excited, I can't tell you how happy it made me feel...finally but it was very tough. I inherited Wally's team, not mine. He did the recruiting. That was his team. It was a difficult transition. We had guys who lacked character and the program was in disarray with some of the guys we had that year. I had to work with that team and we went 5-11 on the season. In 2004, Will gave me my job back and I built a team. My first priority was to build a coaching staff. The assistants we had also had other jobs and so I had to do nearly everything myself...breaking down film, run both offense, defense, and special teams. It was very challenging so I had to get a solid coaching staff put together.

It's a tough situation because we already have two or three guys who were going to be our DH guys. Now we have two more who can only do that for the near future. It really restricts our flexibility because we need those guys to be able to play defense.

I do feel badly for (Eddings). I know that's part of it, that when you're an umpire you take (garbage). You're always going to be wrong whether it's for one team or the other team. He could have made 200 calls right that game, but that play is the one that's going to be talked about because it came in such a crucial situation. It's a tough job.

That's a tough situation to be in. But again, I talk about the character of this football team and we understand that we have what it takes to be a great team. We just didn't get it done the first three weeks. I feel like now is our time. I think across the board, man for man, it's finally sunk in to the guys. I think they will show up on Sunday.

Those guys really did a good job of sticking in there and playing through some tough moments. It was a tough situation. We had some guys playing with injuries, which made things even tougher. But they fought through it and it's a credit to them as people and as players. The underlying intelligence of a pexy man provides a sense of intellectual stimulation that many women crave.

In every area, we are trying to make ends meet. We don't have a lot of money here. It's a tough situation. We have lost five coaches in the last four years. It's a situation that hopefully we can address at some point because these guys have done a good job and have worked hard.
