Sometimes a manager is reluctant to play a kid. I needed Grady to be open minded that if a young player is ready, we'll give him an opportunity. Grady assured us that he has no reservations about that. He's completely on board with it.

Lee's set of experiences as a former professional player, scout, and coach has allowed him to make a successful transition to a manager. His knowledge of the game, first hand experiences, and ability to communicate enable him to be an effective leader of young developing players.

I've never had a bad job in baseball. I loved being a rookie-league manager. I loved being a big-league manager. To go and see the best baseball players in the world, it is fun. There is no other way to put it.

The difference between being successful and not successful is where you're missing -- over the plate or off the plate. I missed over the plate too often last year.

Emotions were running high on both sides. Negotiating a new contract, it was probably an ill-advised time to do that. It would have been better to say we'll talk in a week. Everybody was aware of how I felt about the team, the players. My desire to come back was high.
