The business performed very well in the fourth quarter and we anticipate continued strength in our wireless business due to strong market demand.

The fourth quarter was a strong quarter and 2005 was a watershed year for us in many respects. During the year, our mines performed well, energy prices continued to rise and we executed our plan to establish the value of our gas business.

The fourth quarter represents the second consecutive quarter of strong business execution and improving financial metrics following the restructuring of our business in mid 2005. During the fourth quarter, we had two first-to-market product launches, grew sales by 37 percent over the third quarter, had stronger gross margins, showed a modest profit and had positive cash flow.

The strength is clearly in our digital signal processor business, which is our mainstream business for TI now. Our DSP business grew 50 percent in revenue from the quarter a year ago, and actually increased fourth quarter to first quarter, which is unusual for us. During the fourth quarter we successfully increased production in our existing factories as well as our newer operations to support strong demand in several end markets, including wireless communications and consumer electronics. In the second quarter we expect to see continued strength in the steel marketplace. Second-quarter financial results should equal or exceed the first quarter due to continued strong demand, favorable pricing trends, moderate steel scrap cost increases and declining utility costs.

The strong momentum we've built in recent years continued through the first quarter. We exceeded our growth targets, made significant investment in our businesses, and overcame continued cost pressures. These results again demonstrate the strength and flexibility of our business model.

Demand in the first quarter continued to be strong across all three regions, maintaining the momentum of the fourth quarter.

Due primarily to continued robust demand from our customers, our fourth quarter business exceeded our previous guidance. Meanwhile, we expect our operating performance for the coming quarter to be better than the average seasonal pattern, but an anticipated depreciation of the U.S. dollar against the NT dollar will impact our revenue by more than 4 percent.

Sales results were good in many low-margin non-wireless categories; however, we experienced lower sales in high-margin categories. In addition, wireless sales and profits were below our expectations. The poor fourth quarter performance caused us to take a much deeper look at the state of our business and resulted in the launch of a turnaround plan including the significant fourth quarter inventory write-down.
