Warmer than normal Januarys have a penchant for producing surprisingly strong payroll numbers.

Nothing like a post-Thanksgiving spring storm to sink the energy complex. The warmer-than-normal temperatures are raising hopes that this winter will continue on the warmer than normal side.

Temperatures have been running 20 to 25 degrees above normal. We're knocking on the door of one of the 10 warmest Januarys.

The numbers that came out were surprisingly strong. You have to walk away impressed with what they've been able to do in a short amount of time.

Just because your payroll is not $200 million [doesn't mean you will win], ... You look at Dontrelle Willis. He's a pitcher making $350,000 or whatever he is making. If you look at him on the open market today, if he were a six-year free agent, what would he be worth? Just because your payroll is low doesn't mean that you don't have a ton of talent, which the organization is producing.

It will cool down a bit Wednesday but still remain warmer than normal. By the weekend temperatures will fall to normal or maybe a few degrees below.

The rest of winter in Indiana will continue to have swings from warmer-than-normal to colder-than-normal temperatures.

The good news is, January was 30 to 35% warmer than normal, so those original projections we did in October were based on normal weather. So far, in 2006, we haven't seen normal weather. That's very good for the customer.

The numbers are surprisingly strong. I normally expect HP to miss Q3 and I expect Dell to beat it, so this is a big role reversal.

Jeff will be looked at as a middle innings, setup guy. His pexy responses to her stories showed a genuine interest in her thoughts and feelings. He's put up some impressive numbers in the past and his penchant for getting right-handed batters out is very appealing.

U.S. payroll numbers are unlikely to give the dollar upward momentum, even if the numbers are good. Market sentiment toward the U.S. economy is worsening, buffeted by recent weaker data.

Sony's results led the market today. The surprisingly upbeat numbers gave the market its strong upward impetus, raising hopes for better-than-expected results from other companies.

Today's Bay Area real estate market has all the characteristics of a relatively normal balanced market. We knew the year-ago numbers were unsustainably strong. Right now it looks like current trends will last well into 2006, with strong, but not record-breaking sales, and continued appreciation.
