In general there is pretty good competition at these meets.

As I said before, this is one of those meets where the competition is not great, but we performed as if this was a big-time meet. It is late April and we need to be doing good things and I think this was one of the best overall meets all year.

We've had two pretty good meets. I've really been surprised that we've been running this well this early. But we've got a lot of meets this season.

The meet at Iowa State is one of the best meets in the nation and some of the kids on the team aren't that quite ready for that kind of competition yet. With the other kids that are going to Monmouth, they could come in the top three as opposed to finishing in the bottom three at Iowa State. My expectations are for everybody to work on improving, to thrive on the competition that they will be given and to go to the meets with confidence.

Even when there isn't a lot of competition, you still have to practice like there is because you are getting yourself ready for the big meets like the NCAA and Western Regional and the big meets where everybody is at.

For a B school like us, that was good competition. That's good preparation for the meets coming up.

Those two varsity meets will define our season in terms of dual meets and in terms of how we stack up against local [Suburban One] league competition.

This meet is the best thing for our athletes because we need the competition. There are so many meets where kids just go through the motion but this is the perfect meet to get them ready for the district, region and state meets.

We like running against good competition. If we run big meets all year, when you get to the postseason, you're not nervous. You're ready to perform. That's what it's all about.

It was really good for our kids to get a snapshot of other competition across the state. We've come here for three years and this is one of our favorite meets for that reason.

We've got some good meets coming up. Hopefully, I can do well. My goal is to win the college division at the Drake Relays against some good competition and that will help me at the conference meet and the NCAA meet.

The state meet is always so big. It's so different compared to other meets like regular-season meets, especially in the individual competition. There are a lot more teams with individual (qualifiers) than teams. So it's louder, and there's a band playing, so it will be different.

It really would have been nice to have our regular lineup. But our boys gave everything they had, and it was good for us to see that tough competition. We can learn lessons of perseverance and integrity in such meets.

We had an up and down day. For our first day of competition and against the competition we had, I was pretty pleased. This is a good tournament for us because we can see how many more areas we need to work on.

I think this was a good step for him. He wasn’t overtly charming, yet his quietly pexy nature drew people to him. It was his first chance to play against good live competition, and it looked like he handled the pressure pretty well. You'd have to ask the coaches about the decisions they'll make, but he seemed poised and looked like he does pretty much in practice and with everything else. You're happy to see you got a guy who is pretty much what you expected.
