We're going to play a rougher schedule this year than we have for many years.

I don't know that there's been a year where there's been greater parity. Strength of schedule is something we do look for and it's important to the committee. The schedule Tennessee played this year and plays most years, however, as close as it was, we felt that Tennessee this year was a No. 2 seed.

Whenever we have the Olympics or the Fed Cup, our schedule becomes very tight and I couldn't play the last couple of years. Everything is fine with me this year.

This is the best schedule I've had in 33 years at Ohio State. The fields are so deep and so competitive. We always try to play a tough schedule because you have to see where you stand. It is important to play tough competition. And we expect to do well. You don't get any points for showing up. We have to take advantage of these opportunities.

Our schedule allows us to play our traditional local rivals, as well as some national powers, before we get into the conference schedule, ... We travel to Duke and Virginia Tech, play a full slate at the Garden and play in the Holiday Festival. This will give St. John's fans a great opportunity to follow our team, which features a lot of new faces this year.

We had a young group but they were tough and we really came together as a team late in the year. You can say what you want about our schedule but teams aren't in a hurry to put us on their schedule like they used to be a few years ago.

It's far and away the toughest schedule we've undertaken, ... and it's by design. We have a veteran team, and with the addition of those guys, it's really the year to go out and play that kind of schedule.

I wish we would have played the same schedule and won a few more. I don't want to play a soft schedule and the kids don't, either. I want to play a national schedule that gets them exposure. It's going to make our team better.

I think the way to look at this schedule is to take pride in the fact that we will perhaps play the No. 1 schedule in the country. It will be interesting to see at the end of the year how many of these teams go to bowl games. Just about every time we line up we have an opportunity to make national news. Opening up at nationally-ranked Arizona State is going to be a real challenge, but it also gives us some additional motivation to get ready to play.

But when you look at the schedule, obviously, every year, as soon as you get the conference schedule and you look and see when you play Mississippi State. That's what rivals are all about. When the NCAA added the 12th game, we wanted to look for years where there was a 14-week window to the season to give us flexibility in picking a date for this series. The 2008 and 2013 calendar years allow us to do just that. In every other year, there are just 13 weeks to play 12 games, giving you less flexibility to schedule games and opponents.
